Increased numbers of Learn Devon GCSE adult learners celebrate their achievements

The number of GCSE adult learners across the county gaining GCSE qualifications has increased this year, despite another year of disruption caused by the pandemic.

110 learners attained their GCSE qualifications with Learn Devon this year, up by 15% from the previous academic year.

Mark Cavendish, cycling's greatest sprinter of all time, has been confirmed as the first rider for this year’s Tour of Britain. The Tour organisers have announced that the British cycling legend, who has won more stages of the modern Tour of Britain than any other rider, with 10 Stage victories, will lead his Belgian Deceuninck - Quick-Step team at the UK’s biggest race.

Devon will host Stage Two of the 2021 Tour of Britain on Monday 6 September, starting in the new town of Sherford and finishing in Exeter.

Exmouth RNLI called to distressed yacht

Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew launched to an incident this afternoon involving a 23ft yacht in Lyme Bay.

At 1.05pm today Monday 16 August 2021, H.M. Coastguard tasked Exmouth RNLI All Weather Lifeboat R & J Welburn to attend a report of a 23 foot yacht in difficulties with engine failure and emanating smoke at a position approximately 10 miles off Exmouth, in Lyme Bay. At the Tokyo Olympics, 128 archers took part in individual competitions: 64 men and 64 women. 12 men's, 12 women's and 29 mixed teams fought for prizes in the teams scoring. Thanks to the successful qualification for the Olympics, Britain was represented by 3 men and 3 women: Patrick Huston, Woodgate James, Tom Hall, Sarah Bettles, Bryony Pitman and Naomi Folkard.
