Any book with the title "Jerusalem" is a challenge for both authors and readers, given the complexities, misrepresentations and confusing images inherent in that city. For the visitor, first impressions of Jerusalem, perhaps to do with the light or the architecture, give way to questions, about the different cultures and their histories, and then on to concerns about how these cultures mix (or rather, don't) particularly the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. And then beyond these concerns come others less obvious, but which surface from time to time.

The Exeter Daily under BBC spotlight

The Exeter Daily has featured on a BBC Spotlight report about the future of news.

The regional programme highlighted the plight of several local newspapers that had seen sales tumble in the past 12 months.

Among them are Exeter's Express & Echo which has seen declines of almost 20 per cent. The Western Morning News fell by 7.6 per cent and the Plymouth Herald by 8.9 per cent.

The BBC interviewed Marc Astley, a former editor of the E&E and founder of The Exeter Daily.

Warmer weather on the way... at last

After a perishing spell of winter weather, thermeometers are forecast to hit double figures this week.

The Met Office is predicting more spring-like weather however, we are unlikely to see a great deal of sun with rain expected on Thursday.

A Met office forecaster said tthe warmer temperatures are not unusual for this time of year.

She added: "it will just be a welcome change after the last couple of weeks which have been below average."

Tickets for Bristol game now on sale

Tickets for Exeter City’s rearranged away match against Bristol Rovers at 7.45pm on March 6 are on general sale to buy at St James Park.

Tickets that were sold for the original fixture, which was due to take place on Saturday 19th January, will be valid for this rearranged game. If you cannot make the new date, please return your ticket to Reception for a full refund.

A charity quiz has helped raise over £1,500 for WESC Foundation, a specialist centre for visual impairment located on Topsham Road, Exeter.

It's 2.36pm on a Monday and the weekend is already a distant memory.

A survey by mobile network Three indicates that internet sharing peaks at this precise time for Brits who 'wish it was still the weekend' and try instead to reconnect with friends.

Management battle to save Axminster Carpets

A national newspaper has claimed that the management of Axminster Carpets is battling to mount a rescue bid to save the 250-year-old company.

The Sunday Times claimed yesterday that Josh Dutfield, the managing director, is in negotiations with financial backers about saving the historic manufacturer from collapse.

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 people have signed a petition in a bid to save the firm and a food bank for workers and their families has been launched at the town's Tesco supermarket.
