Devon Heritage Centre to hold second annual ‘Open Day’

Devon County Council’s ’Devon Heritage Centre’ is throwing open its doors this weekend for its second annual ‘Open Day’ held in association with the Friends of Devon’s Archives.

Taking place on Saturday 16 March at Great Moor House in Exeter, the ’Partnerships and Projects’ themed day will focus on areas where the County Council’s Heritage Service is liaising with other heritage institutions and societies to enhance the provision of information and records relating to Devon’s rich history.

Rohingya refugees who spoke out over Thai shooting of boat people disappear

Five men who spoke to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with regards to claims of the Thai military massacring Rohingya refugees have themselves been reported missing.

The five men - all Rohingya refugees - reported members of the Thai military shot at defenceless Rohingya refugees, allegedly killing 15 people travelling in boats in the Andaman Sea coast north of Phuket.

Mr Bumble Joins The Frobishers Team

A life-sized 3D gorilla is the latest addition to the team at the head office of Exeter-based premium juice brand Frobishers.

A rather unusual staff member, ‘Mr Bumble’ as he’s affectionately known, is one of a troop of gorillas that is the focus of Paignton Zoo’s Great Gorillas Project. Frobishers has sponsored him for the duration of the project.

The Zoo is home to five gorillas and is celebrating its 90th birthday in 2013 by raising funds for gorilla conservation and a local community project.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce joined forces with Somerset Chamber and The Association of East Devon Chambers of Commerce this week in a ‘Meet the Neighbour’ business lunch. This was well attended by a range of guests and members from all three Chambers, with over 100 delegates in total.

Motorists in East Devon will soon be able to take advantage of cut price parking deals around the district as several trial offers get underway.

Axminster, Honiton, Sidmouth and Exmouth are all set to benefit from deals in specific local car parks aimed at encouraging longer visits to town centres and visitor attractions. Update: This incident has now cleared.

1.30pm: Upton Pyne Hill remains closed due to an earlier accident. No further details have been released of the number of vehicles involved or any injuries.

Upton Pyne Hill in Upton Pyne is reported to be closed around the Burridge Road junction, because of a serious accident. Recovery work is currently being carried out to clear the accident.

Two men charged with forgery in Exeter

Two men have been charged with offences under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act following a check by police in Exeter on Monday 11 March 2013.

Eighteen year old Alfonse Tourino from Portsmouth was charged with having custody or control of £940 counterfeit Scottish notes and a breach of bail offence.

Murder investigation launched in Plymouth after man's body discovered

Update: Formal identification has now been carried out and the deceased has been named as Keith Dance aged 33 years who lived on Molesworth Road in the Stoke area of Plymouth.

Jacqueline Cooke aged 29 of Victoria Place and Ian Gollop aged 50 of Molesworth Road – both Stoke addresses - have been charged with the murder of Keith Dance. They are both due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning, Thursday 14 March.
