The Antiques Roadshow has come to Exeter.

The BBC television show, now into its 36th series, will see some of the UK’s top experts in antiques and fine arts offering free valuations to anyone who attends. By 9am the queue was already several hundred strong with people and antiques stretching around Exeter Cathedral Green. One of the attendants was Melanie Sharwood (pictured) who brought a treasured painting to be appraised. Krispy Kreme doughnuts hit Exeter high street

Exeter bakers face fresh competition as premium retailers hit the high street.

From next week, the Tesco Metro in the city centre will stock Krispy Kreme doughnuts in an in-store cabinet.

The new self-service cabinets will offer customers more than 12 varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, freshly baked in Bristol that morning.

Both the Tesco Metro and the Exeter Vale Tesco Extra will open self-service cabinets next Wednesday (18 September).

Krispy Kreme UK now has over 400 doughnut cabinets across the UK as well as 52 dedicated stores.

Royal Mail privatisation set to proceed, government announces

The government has given notice of its intention to proceed with the privatisation of what it has indicated will be the majority part of the Royal Mail.

Notice has been given to the London Stock Exchange with the plans set to begin in the coming weeks.

10% of the shares will be given to UK Royal Mail employees - 150,000 given free with a priority offer for additional shares, subject to a minimum £500 investment.

The remaining shares will be offered to institutional investors and members of the public who will be required to apply at a minimum investment of £750....

Exeter’s business brains and taste buds will be tested at a brand new Big Biz Quiz launching at Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel on Thursday 26 September at 6pm. Featuring a special wine tasting section as well as quiz questions, the Biz Quiz is open to teams from the business community.

Government announces £69 million more for Start-Up Loans and New Enterprise Allowance

Aspiring entrepreneurs from across Britain will get financial backing from the government under a £69 million package of support that will help create tens of thousands of new businesses, according to the government.

Sowing the seeds of remembrance - Centenary Poppy Campaign is rolled out nationally

The Royal British Legion has announced that the Centenary Poppy Campaign, which originated in the Greenhithe and Swanscombe Branch of the Legion, will be rolled out nationally in partnership with B&Q.

The national campaign will see the Legion asking the public and local authorities to purchase Flanders poppy seeds from B&Q to plant on their own land. The funds raised by the campaign will go towards the £1.6 million the Legion spends each week on vital care and support to the Armed Forces community.

Exeter band The Big V will be stepping off stage and into an empty office space in Princesshay next week when they participate in five live performance events during Unexpected 2013, Exeter’s brand new arts festival.
