Bottled water epitomises the destructive, extravagant and wasteful nature of our modern society. In comparative terms it is very expensive, not necessary for good health and its packaging and distribution have enormous negative effects on the environment.
Bottled water can be 500 times more expensive than tap water. For example when I checked today (15 Aug 13) a 500ml bottle of Buxton from a nearby motorway services cost £2.29. That’s £4.58 a litre, three times the price of petrol at the same location! I couldn’t find the local price per litre of tap water however I do have a...

According to research by money-saving taxi app, TaxiTastic ( www.taxitastic.co.uk ), East Devon is the most expensive place in England to leave the taxi meter running, costing £28 an hour, compared to low rates such as £6 in Redcar and Cleveland. The figures are based on data from the Hackney rate cards from each of the 363 borough councils across the UK. With a huge 2,500% variation in taxi waiting time charges across the country, it pays to know the rates for the area you’re in to avoid stacking up high fares when stuck in traffic or leaving the taxi waiting as you take an extra five...

East Devon District Council has submitted the planning application following months of study and preparation, including a public consultation which gathered views from over 500 local people and organisations.
