Donkey Sanctuary welcomes tiny new arrival

The Donkey Sanctuary is celebrating the arrival of the smallest miniature foal to be born into its care.

Weighing just 14kg and standing at knee height the tiny fluffy brown and white colt is a real beauty.

At just a few days old he is already racing around the paddock keeping his proud mum busy but has yet to be named.

Vet Elena Barrio who has been at The Donkey Sanctuary for nine years says: “As his mum is a miniature donkey he’s one of the smallest foals we’ve ever had. About the size of a dog. To give you an idea he’s about 14kg as opposed to about 50kg for an...

Anyway - sport apart - it’s turning out a perfect summer for Devon’s growing band of vineyards.

The fruit set ( from the Pinot Noir to the red grape Rondo) has been magnificent, and we have built in a week to 10 days of extra ripening for the grapes thanks to the early...

Hooker Elvis Taione hopes a big year with new club Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership can help secure him a spot in the Tongan squad for next year's Rugby World Cup.

The 31-year-old is one of seven new signings brought to Sandy Park by head coach Rob Baxter this summer and already the experienced forward is setting his sights high ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Not only is Taione keen on playing a key role within Baxter's first-team make-up, but he hopes his on-field actions will be enough to put him in contention for the South Sea Islanders.

A new feminist group called Exeter Feminists has been created. The group, which aims to promote gender equality in the community, hope to help local charities and will hold regular meetings.

Exeter Feminists was created by Ellis Taylor after discovering a lack of feminist groups in the city.

A real rarity has been discovered at a Devon nature reserve.

The rarity in question is an aptly named dragonfly known as the scarce chaser. It was seen recently at Devon Wildlife Trust’s Old Sludge Beds nature reserve on the outskirts of Exeter. The charity’s site is a well-known haven for local wildlife, but the sighting of a scarce chaser still came as something of a surprise. The nature reserve is now thought to be one of only a handful of places in Devon in which scarce chasers have ever been recorded.

The dragonfly was spotted by Keith Richards, a member of the British...
