Tonight will see gritters out on some of Devon's major roads for the first time this winter.
Road surface temperatures are forecast to drop close to freezing in parts of the county overnight. Although conditions are dry, 19 of Devon’s 37 precautionary pre-salting routes will be treated due to the potential for hoar frost.
The main gritting activity will be focussed around Torridge, Mid, West and North Devon, and inland areas of East Devon. Other parts of the county will be monitored.
Devon County Council is well prepared to keep the county moving over the coming...
307 Squadron Project invites you to Exeter for a special exhibition to remember the Polish 307 Squadron RAF that defended the South West of England during the Second World War.

At 10am on Tuesday 15 November the Lord Mayor of Exeter will raise the Polish flag over the Guildhall to remember 307 Squadron which prevented the city from being totally destroyed during the blitz of 1942. This ceremony will help promote...
“The chance to make history” is the way that TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham is describing a campaign by the Devon Wildlife Trust. The wildlife charity urgently needs to raise a minimum of £100,000 from a crowdfunding campaign to have a chance of securing the future of England’s only wild population of beavers.
The beavers have made their home on the River Otter in East Devon.
After being discovered in 2013 the beavers were originally set to be removed by government officials. However, a partnership led by Devon Wildlife Trust and involving local people and local...
Exciting plans are being made for Exeter Pride on Saturday 13 May 2017.
It will be the biggest free celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) communities in the county of Devon - and is one of the first in the UK summer calendar of similar such events.
The ninth annual event will include the always popular rainbow flag parade from the St Sidwell Centre down Exeter High Street to Northernhay Gardens, Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Library and Rougemont Gardens, where a packed programme of activities will await.
Exeter's famous Red Coat Guided Tours have announced a temporary programme following the fire at the Royal Clarence Hotel and limited access in the city centre.
The temporary programme will run from now for the foreseeable future. These tours will run daily:
11am: City To Quay – finishes on the Quayside
2pm: Exeter Old & New – Finishes at the Guildhall
Each script has been adapted to talk about last week’s events.
The Tours will start from outside of the Tourist information Centre and will last for ninety minutes.
Rusty Pig’s food wagons will be hitting the streets at Ottery St Mary’s Flaming Tar Barrels on November 5.
The wagons have been created from cattle trailers; the original was six-foot but the concept has now ‘gone large’ and the latest model is a twelve-foot monster. Both wagons have a wood-fired oven on board.
The food wagons are being organised and run for free, and profits will be donated to the carnival committee. Last year, over £1,000 was taken from the sale of Rusty Pig cuisine.
Both these unusual food wagons will be found in Mill Street, serving freshly made...

Wednesday 14 December and Thursday 15 December 2016 at 7.30 p.m.

We are delighted to include carols by three musical friends of the choir, Andrew Millington, David Davies and Stephen Tanner.
More than 500 trick or treaters enjoyed hot chocolate and homemade cakes at a city home last night.
Mark and Gemma McHutchon, who belong to the nearby Isca Church, hosted the evening on the drive of their King Arthurs Road home in Beacon Heath.
It was the fifth year they have done this. Members of the Isca Church community prepared large pans of hot chocolate and baked lots of cakes and biscuits.
Richard Cummings, Isca Church community worker, said: “It was a great night. We met so many lovely people and everyone enjoyed the fun atmosphere. Parents were especially...
