Scores of Exmouth residents are learning more about East Devon’s new improved recycling collection service due to start in the town from mid-February through a series of information days which continue through this month and into January.
The information events are a great opportunity to find out more about the new service where householders will be able to recycle additional items such as cardboard, mixed plastics, cartons and small electrical goods which will be collected every week.

Volunteers at community events across Devon and Torbay have repaired dozens of broken electrical items this autumn as part of an initiative to reduce waste.
From September to November nine repair events were held, one in every district and Torbay, giving members of the public the chance to have electrical appliances - including computers - fixed for free.
Thirty skilled menders, including many local businesses such as Any Fix South West, volunteered for the events organised by Recycle Devon, a partnership of 10 Devon councils, in conjunction with local community groups....
The 38th annual charity event was a huge success attracting a crowd of over 8600 visitors and smashing all records by raising £32,000 for local good causes and charities.

It was announced last week that Exeter Cathedral has been awarded £70,000 in the final phase of grants from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund. The money will be used to fund the urgent removal of asbestos from roof spaces above the Cathedral’s Quire aisles and north porch, allowing the safe inspection and maintenance of spaces which have been inaccessible without strict control in recent years. Eleven men from across England and Wales sentenced for sickening acts of deliberate cruelty
Members of a gang of animal abusers who tortured and killed wild animals with their dogs have been jailed.
One piece of sickening footage seized during the investigation by the RSPCA shows a badger screaming in pain as it is torn apart by two dogs. Other clips show a fox trapped in a cage being tormented by dogs, as well as one where a terrier type dog is put in the cage to fight with the trapped fox, giving neither animal the chance to escape.
