Akeel Higgins delivered a beautifully executed chip over the goalkeeper to earn himself a 68% public vote for the Guildhall Shopping Centre’s October Goal of the Month at the Devon Derby. It was the player’s first professional strike, which has quickly embedded the 20-year-old’s Exeter City loan as his early legacy within the hearts of his now rising fans. Experience of a lifetime for young footballers

A group of Exeter schoolboys had the experience of a lifetime as they set foot on the hallowed Wembley turf for the Utilita Kids Cup Final on Saturday, ahead of the Sky Bet League Two play-off final between Mansfield Town and Port Vale.

Thousands of people have lined the centre of Exeter to congratulate the city’s football club on their promotion winning season.

The team finished as League Two runners-up to ensure promotion to League One – the third tier of English football – for the first time since 2012.

On Monday evening [9 May], an open top bus parade was greeted with a sea of red and white as the players and staff slowly made their way from their ground, St James Park, to the historic Guildhall on the High Street.

An open top bus parade and Civic Reception will be held next week to celebrate Exeter City’s promotion to League One.

The parade will begin in Exeter High Street from 6pm on Monday 9 May.

There could be a double celebration if the Grecians win their last home game on Saturday and are crowned League Two champions.

Exeter City football supporters, Richard and Karen Jarvis, who live 5,000 miles from St James Park in El Paso, Texas have donated their season tickets to local charity, Exeter Community Initiatives, to distribute to people needing a special day out.

Exeter Community Initiatives is a local charity set up nearly 30 years ago to help people in the community who are marginalised because of poverty, disadvantage or who are socially isolated.

A giant new electronic screen at Exeter City Football Club’s ground, St James Park, has finally made its debut.

The club was given permission for the 29 x 17-feet (8.64 x 5.12 metre) LED screen by the city council around the start of the season last August, but delays meant fans had to wait until Saturday to see it in action for the first time.

Exeter City Council and Exeter City Football Club (ECFC) have won a national recycling award for their innovative scheme, Cans 4 City, which encourages Exeter football fans to recycle used drink cans while also raising money for charity.

The team behind Cans 4 City were presented with a Green Can Award by not-for-profit Every Can Counts in recognition of their outstanding recycling efforts.
