Narrative Remains is an exhibition about words and making running from Saturday 18 January - Sunday 23 March at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey, TQ13 9AF. Also join in fun and learning events relating to the exhibition.
The idea of ‘Narrative Remains’ had eleven UK artist-makers creating work imprinted with stories from the past, snatches of words and scattered letters, so viewers will find clues to many different ideas and thoughts coming out of the clay, print and textiles. The gallery has a giant walk in tower built from over 2,000 old books. There are lovely hand-embroidered portraits made out of tiny words, telling the story behind each face. A work based on text messages-called 'Effluence' pours hand-stitched letters out of glowing tubes. With so many fresh approaches to materials and ideas, visitors can see how words can add meaning, decoration and fun – to making. Exhibition is free, open daily and there is a competition in the gallery to create a character for the story wall.
