Fourth place in World Rowing Junior Championships for Exeter School pupil

Exeter School Sixth Former Phoebe Campbell has taken fourth place in the World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Upper Sixth Former represented the GB Rowing Team at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships held in Trakai, Lithuania in August. The crew trained together at Pangbourne and Caversham before flying out to Lithuania three days before the competition. A record entry of 742 rowers in 258 boats from 59 countries was received for this year's 13-event competition. Exeter MP officially opens beer garden at Exeter care home

The Old Rectory Care home based in Exeter, announces it has been rated ‘overall outstanding’ by Care Quality Commission (CQC), in four domains: effective, responsive, caring and well-led, and is one of only three nursing homes in the area to be awarded this high-rating.

Just under 20,000 community based health and care services are inspected by CQC over a 12month period, and following the announcement, The Old Rectory is now part of the elite 1% in the U.K., inspected by the CQC who get outstanding, and is even less for nursing homes.

Ladies Tug of War success at British & Irish Championships

Haldon Ladies Tug of War team picked up two Golds and a Silver at the British and Irish Outdoor Tug of War Championships, just one week after winning the National Young Farmers finals at Tenbury Countryside Show.

Drug gang members jailed for 61 years

Three men from Birmingham have been sentenced to a total of 61 years in prison for kidnap, rape of a woman, false imprisonment and the stabbing of a man in Exeter.

Abdirahman Abukar, aged 19, of Alum Rock Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to 23 years, Abdirahman Kadir, 21, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 23 years and Ibrahim Mohammed, 18, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Exeter Crown Court today [Tuesday 22 August].

Reduction in housing possession actions welcomed by Citizens Advice Exeter

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has welcomed an overall 11% reduction in the number of housing repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the three-month period ending 30th June. This is in comparison to the same period in 2016.

Steve Barriball, Citizens Advice Exeter Chief Executive, said: “In the last quarter there were 126 cases listed for repossession, an overall 11% reduction, or 16 cases, on the previous year. However, there was a small increase in private rented sector repossessions, which were up by one case.

An Exeter School alumnus is celebrating co-running his third annual Summer Film School which was attended by 25 young people, including pupils from his old school.

1998 leaver Philip Symes is part of Four of Swords Theatre and, together with business partner Sarah White, runs the successful Summer Film School at Poltimore House just outside of Exeter.

Power company colleagues take the leap for a good cause

Thrill seeking colleagues at Western Power Distribution (WPD) have taken part in a skydive to raise cash for FORCE Cancer Charity.

Exeter Operators Michael Roberts and Geoff Farrant and Linesman Lewis Taylor made the 15,000 feet jump at Dunkeswell Aerodrome in East Devon, raising £5,000 for the Exeter-based charity who provide treatment and support for those affected by cancer.
