Icescape Westpoint all set to return this winter

AFTER a successful first year at Westpoint Arena, the sizable real ice rink returns to the venue this winter.

The main Westpoint Arena building will once again host the festive attraction from Thursday 11th December 2025 to Sunday 4th January 2026.

There’s space for up to 400 skaters in each 45-minute skate session on the ice, with various session types throughout the day. An innovation designed in Exeter to detect contaminated water and save lives has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

FluoroGlow’s device is designed to detect Cryptosporidium in water – a parasite that can cause severe illness and even death, especially in children and vulnerable people.

Previously, it has been difficult to detect without slow laboratory-based tests. But FluoroGlow aims to change that by providing rapid and reliable results directly at the water source.

Savings stash worth thousands waiting for 758,000 young people

Latest figures reveal 758,000 18 to 23 year olds have yet to claim their matured Child Trust Fund as HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) urges them to find their accounts, worth on average £2,242 each.

Child Trust Funds are long term, tax-free savings accounts which were set up for children born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011 with an initial government deposit of at least £250.

Young people can take control of their account at 16, but once the account holder turns 18 it matures, and they can decide whether they want to withdraw the money or re-invest it.

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.
