County tennis players, Di West (Exmouth), Jenny Doig (Barnstaple), Co-captains Anne Tait, (Budleigh Salterton) and Linda Knight (Torquay) recently represented Devon in the Ladies Over 75's County Cup Final.  The Devon team became the National Champions beating Lancashire 3-1 in Southampton this autumn.

The team had already played five matches, in the southern section of Division 1, against Middlesex, Surrey, Warwickshire, Kent and Suffolk during the summer.  Undefeated, they ended up at the top of the division, which gave them a place in the final, against the winners of the Northern section.

Devon Performance Coach Will McNally commented “This impressive victory demonstrates the commitment of our County vets squads as well as the breadth and depth of our tennis programme here in Devon.  Along with many of our county players these ladies train regularly and compete at local league level as well as county training throughout the year.”

A wonderful result, especially as this is the first time Devon has been champion in this age group.

The players’ devotion to the sport is clear.  "I have met so many lovely people over the years playing tennis and it has kept me fit" said Linda Knight.  "Winning all of our matches against strong opposition to get to the finals was a real achievement, and beating Lancaster in the final was the cherry on the top!" said Jenny Doig

In addition to the players on the day, Yvonne Cottam (Dartmouth) and Annie Broome (Ashcombe) should also be commended as nominated Cup Final reserves.
