As international attention turns to Tokyo 2020 in the summer of sport, a Devon-based charity is preparing to deliver an alternative sustainable Games this August for the wider public.

The virtual Planet Earth Games consists of a series of challenges that encourage people towards active, sustainable lifestyle.

The Planet Earth Games was first launched as an event in Exeter in July 2019 and has grown hugely in the pandemic in a new virtual format, reaching over 1m with participants from right across the UK and beyond.

Footfall at Exeter Airport is predicted to increase this Summer along with the demand for covid testing as ‘Freedom Day’ heralds the easing of travel restrictions to amber listed countries.

With almost 1 million passengers in 2019, Exeter Airport saw footfall decrease last year during the pandemic but expects to see foreign travel levels significantly increase as schools break up for Summer and amber list quarantine is scrapped in England for those who are double vaccinated.

PEOPLE in the South West are being urged to get on their bikes for Cancer Research UK and raise money for a wheelie great cause.

People of all ages and abilities – from seasoned cyclists to recent converts – are being encouraged to sign up now for the Cycle 300 challenge to help the charity continue its life-saving mission.

Participants can choose how, when and where to clock up 300 miles on a bike during September - whether it’s 10 miles every day, 75 miles every weekend or all in one go.

Diabetes UK looking for swimmers in Devon to make a splash in charity challenge

People from Devon are being invited to dive into a sponsored swimming challenge and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Swim22 runs between 22 July and 22 October and involves swimming a total of 22 miles – the equivalent of crossing the English Channel. Participants can take on the challenge at their own pace, accumulating the miles across the course of the 12 weeks.

All funds raised will go towards Diabetes UK’s work in funding life-saving research and making sure everyone living with diabetes gets the care and support they need.
