Late change to Chiefs squad

Exeter Chiefs have been forced to make a late change to their squad for today's Aviva Premiership clash with Wasps at the Ricoh Arena (2pm).

Replacement prop Alex Brown has failed a late fitness test, so Brett Sturgess is brought into the squad to replacement him.

Otherwise, Rob Baxter's side are unchanged from the side that was named on Friday lunchtime.

With just three rounds of the scheduled domestic season to play, fourth-placed Chiefs know they are within striking distance of the play-offs for the first time in their short top flight existence.

Devon law firm is Twitter number 1

A leading Devon law firm has been ranked number 1 in the UK for its influence on Twitter, according to digital marketing specialists I-com.

Stephens Scown LLP, which is based in Exeter, came top in the survey which looked at the influence or “Klout” of the top 200 law firms on Twitter.

I-com first ranked firms by Klout alone - a figure prepared by Twitter to rank the effectiveness of its users - and Stephens Scown was placed second, but when they factored in the size of the firm and its revenue compared to other larger firms, Stephens Scown moved into first place.

‘Ringing the changes’ scam warning

Police are issuing a warning to businesses following reports of a ‘ringing the changes’ scam operating across Devon and Cornwall.

Two men entered convenience stores in Newton Abbot, Saltash and Redruth, and a restaurant in Falmouth, where they confused the shop assistant by asking to change various amounts of money.

While the staff were distracted, they managed to steal £410 in total.

Officers believe it is the same two men responsible for all four offences that happened on Monday 13 April and Tuesday 14 April.

Social ventures in Devon, which have been chosen to benefit from a share of £600,000 in funding and development support, have met for the first time at the official launch of the exciting South West social accelerator programme Seedbed.

Police scheme targets hit-and-run drivers

A new scheme has been launched by Devon and Cornwall Police to stop rogue drivers evading the law after hit-and-run collisions.

The Force has set up Garage Watch, a messaging system to alert local garages to any vehicle police suspect of being involved in a collision.

The scheme aims to stop drivers avoiding justice by getting car repairs done swiftly at garages while lying about the cause of the damage.

A six-year-old boy and his mum and dad today became the first family in the South West to take part in ground-breaking DNA research at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) to help fight rare health conditions.
