South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is the top ambulance service in England for running the most clinical research studies to inform and improve patient care and treatments in the future.

One hundred per cent of all the NHS Trusts in England are offering the opportunity to participate in health research to patients according to a league table published today by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN).

County council calls for pavement parking powers

Devon County Council is calling on Government to revisit proposals that would give the authority more powers to deal with motorists parking on pavements.

On December 4 last year the House of Commons withdrew a motion for a bill to end Pavement Parking.

Powers to deal with obstruction of pavements currently rest with the Police and not highways authorities like Devon County Council.

In the last 12 months there has been 788 complaints made about pavement parking in Devon.

Chagstok Festival organisers have confirmed that Devon’s much-loved, family friendly, not-for-profit event will return in 2017 after its triumphant, Sold Out 10th Birthday this July!

Jolly Good Jaunt is a jolly big success

Last Sunday’s Hospiscare Jolly Good Jaunt was a huge success. A great big thank you to the many people who participated or who helped to stage the event.

403 people donned their tweed and walked 7.5 miles raising much needed money for their local hospice.

Amongst these walkers was the mayoress of Honiton Caroline Kolek, who had a brilliant day. She said: "Myself and Stephen were only too pleased to support our local hospice by taking part in the lovely `Jolly Good Jaunt`.

This Saturday, 29 October, Magdalen Road will bid a fond farewell to Pipers Farm as the family run company, which has had an active presence on the road for 23 years, has made the decision to focus its entire business online.

Exeter City Treasure Chest launches

A ‘treasure chest’ of Exeter City Football Club’s history has been launched at a big gathering of former players at St James Park.

The event on Saturday 22 October saw the official unveiling of The Grecian Archive – an on-line resource packed with items from Exeter City’s heritage.

The Archive has been overseen by the Exeter City History Group, a Supporters Trust initiative, and delivered and hosted by its partner the University of Exeter with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Crackdown on antisocial driving in Exmouth

Action has been taken against almost a dozen young motorists following a crackdown on antisocial driving at Exmouth seafront.

Exmouth Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out two operations over the summer to target young car enthusiasts who traditionally gather at the seafront.

The operation, run with the assistance of roads policing and response officers, was conducted in response to concerns from the public about speeding and dangerous driving.

Two play areas in Teignbridge have become the latest ‘smoke free’ zones in a bid to encourage residents and visitors to stub out smoking where children play.

Play areas in Hennock and Little Week Close, Dawlish join existing ones at The Den, Teignmouth, Courtenay Park and Decoy Country Park, both in Newton Abbot in trialling a smokefree code which asks that children be allowed to play in a smoke free environment.
