Willmott Dixon investing in Devon

Construction company, Willmott Dixon, is expanding its business in the South West peninsular having recently won four major contacts in the area. Together the investment exceeds £20 million and work will begin straight away. Willmott Dixon have committed that £16 million will be spent in Devon, with Devon based contractors.

Exeter’s historic waterside wine cellars to become new micro brewery

St Austell Brewery, one of the South West’s leading breweries, is planning to invest £1.5million in transforming a derelict 19th century warehouse on Exeter’s vibrant quayside into a brand new pub-restaurant and micro-brewery.

The building, in Commercial Road on The Quay, has been bought leasehold from Exeter City Council by Cornwall’s premier independent brewery, and will be dramatically renovated to create a new venue for the city.

Network Central Show at Sandy Park in doubt after company director jailed for 6 months

The Network Central event due to take place at Exeter's Sandy Park in November has been thrown into disrepute following the sentencing of well-known Devon businessman and the event's organiser Rod Major. Mr Major has been jailed for acting in contravention to a ban on running a company and owing creditors a total of £126,000.

Solicitors raise funds for Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes is set to benefit from £2,456 raised by local legal firm Stephens Scown following fundraising over the last 12 months.

Fundraising events included cake bake sales, dress down days, quiz nights and a Wimbledon themed night. Robert Camp, Managing Partner of Stephens Scown, said: “Help for Heroes is our firm-wide charity which staff voted for and which we have been supporting for the last few years. We are delighted to be giving our time and efforts for such a positive cause that does so much for our servicemen and women.”

Stephens Scown LLP has announced its sponsorship of the Devon International Trade Forum (DITF) event on 10 September 2013, aimed at providing practical advice on exporting for local businesses.

The event, which is being held at the Innovation Centre at Exeter University, starts at 5.30pm, with presentations beginning at 6.45pm and ending at around 8.30pm.

CBI raises its 2013 UK growth forecast

The CBI has raised its growth forecasts for 2013 and 2014 from 1.0% to 1.2%. But the UK's leading business lobbying organisation says the rebalancing away from consumption towards investment and trade is taking longer than expected.

The CBI says it has increased the figure from its May forecast, after a better than expected second quarter and signs of a pick-up in confidence across a broad range of sectors, including services, construction and manufacturing.

Colin hangs up his keys after clocking up 700,000 miles

A Stagecoach employee who has spent 42 years ‘on the buses’ has hung up his keys for the last time.

As an examiner Colin Kneeshaw was the man whose approval many drivers had to win before passing their test. But despite his intimidating role, he was a popular member of the team who, during his time, made a piece of company history.

Colin, 66, joined the former Devon General as a conductor after leaving the army. He only intended working for six months “until something better came along” but stayed for 12 and was then asked to train as a driver.
