World's biggest Plogathon set for Exeter

Planet Earth Games and Plastic Free Exeter have agreed a partnership to deliver a ‘Plogathon’ – which organisers believe could be the biggest plogging event in the world. Plogging refers to the activity of picking up litter whilst jogging - a Swedish derived term, from "plocka" (to pick up) and "jogga" (to jog). From its beginnings in Sweden in 2016, plogging now represents an increasingly global movement, evidenced by the representation of over 40 countries in the official online “Plogga” group.

Station Road play area set for £110k makeover

Work has started on the £110k refurbishment of a play area in Exeter.

The facility at Pinhoe Station Road is being rebuilt by Exeter City Council after locals were asked what sort of play equipment they would like to see introduced.

Work is hoped to be completed by the summer holidays but is weather dependent.

The new play area has been designed to provide a challenging and enjoyable mix of equipment for children of all ages and abilities. Along with the traditional favourites of swings and see-saws, there will be two split-level play towers designed for toddlers...

Princesshay is bringing Wimbledon to Exeter with live outdoor screenings of matches on the giant screen. The screen will be in Princesshay Square for the duration of the legendary two-week tournament (Monday 1st July – Sunday 14th July 2019).

Princesshay is also providing deckchairs, bean bags and a temporary lawn for visiting tennis fans watching the matches free of charge.

Bus Users UK will be by the Princesshay Shopping Centre on Bedford Street at 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 12 June to hear what local people have to say about their bus services.

Bus Users UK, the charity that aims to bring people together through socially inclusive transport, will be joined by representatives from Devon County Council and Stagecoach South West.

Passengers and local residents can pop in and raise their concerns or suggestions directly with the people responsible for running their bus services.

A month-long cycle challenge will be held throughout June to support Bike Week.

Devon County Council is working with Love to Ride Devon to support Bike Week and the cycle challenge throughout next month.

Bike Week, which runs from Saturday 8 June to Sunday 16 June, aims to inspire people to cycle while celebrating the environmental and health benefits of cycling.

The twelve athletes who will head to Rotterdam in the Netherlands to represent Great Britain Women at the 2019 European Championships have been named.

The squad aim to realise two ambitions in Rotterdam; achieve a podium finish and secure qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
