Devon based folk music organisation Wren Music launches a new collaboration with Exeter’s Cygnet theatre this week with the opening night in the ‘Wren Presents . . .’ season with Scottish Folk Singer and fiddle player Mairi Campbell in concert with Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll on Friday 28 March at 7.30pm.

Award winning singer songwriter Mairi Campbell makes a welcome return to Devon, and she blends her distinctive vocals and skilled fiddle playing to create a haunting collection of songs and tunes for her concert. Mairi may be best remembered for her rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’...

Maori Masks

When depicting ancestors, Maori carvers often include facial and body tattoos within their designs. These patterns are important because each marking may have an important personal meaning. Come and make a mask based on Maori designs as well as your personal meanings.

Parents are expected to stay with their children while they participate and must remain with them if they are under 8 years of age. Some activities are messy so please wear clothes that can get dirty. Aprons will be provided.

Update: A 45-year-old woman from Axminister has died after being involved in a serious road traffic collision at 7:45 am this morning.

A newly-built £27.5 million health education and research centre is now open, streamlining the process from discovery to patient care. The state-of-the-art Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building is a partnership between the University of Exeter Medical School and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E).

Rare Devon Bird Rescued From Extinction

A rare South Devon Bird has been rescued from the brink of extinction following an EU-funded recovery programme. The cirl bunting, native to South Devon, almost died out 25 years ago having falling to just over 100 pairs in 1989 due to the lack of food and nesting sites. Now following an extensive recovery programme to protect their environments bankrolled by the European Rural Development stewardship fund numbers are making a steady return with just under 1000 pairs estimated to live in the South Devon area.
