Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. Samaritans in Exeter, Mid and East Devon is celebrating Volunteers Week this year by bucking the trend and attracting a raft of new and younger volunteers as well as more experienced ones.

“Volunteering is often associated with older people with spare time and plenty of life experience. Those are vital to our organisation, of course, but they’re not the only demographic to find volunteering rewarding and satisfying” explains Mel Whittock, director of the local Samaritans branch.

Free Soapbox Science talks in Exeter

Fish on painkillers, the power of tiny shrimps and late-night snacking by bumblebees are just some of the subjects on offer at this year's Soapbox Science in Exeter.

The event – from noon-3pm on Saturday 11 June at Piazza Terracina, Exeter Quayside – is free to attend and will feature 12 female scientists explaining their work.

Devon and Cornwall Police Assistant Chief Constable Glen Mayhew has been awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal (QPM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
