With perfect timing for Pride Month, The Recycled Candle Company’s Pride candles have been recognised at the Gift of the Year Awards 2022.

The attractive rainbow striped candle range was highly commended in the Collectable, Commemorative & Charitable category.

Each candle is made by hand from 100% recycled wax at the Gandy Street workshop in Exeter. “It’s a time-consuming process,” explains chief candle maker Richard Hills-Ingyon. “We have to layer each of the six colours to create the rainbow effect, giving enough time for layers to set before adding the next one. But the result is worth the effort.”

The individual colours of wax needed for the layers come from used candles donated to the business. These are separated into type and colour before being filtered ready to be used for new candles. “This means each colour may burn a little differently – in fact every candle has unique properties, which are part of their charm.” 10 percent of all sales are donated to LGBTQIA+ charities.

In the same awards, the company’s Nordic Spruce & Holly candle - which was launched for Christmas 2021 - was shortlisted in the Festive & Occasions category. With a fragrance evoking childhood memories of Christmas the dark green pillar candle has a dipped golden base.
