A Special Call from Topsham Museum

One of the area’s best loved museums is putting out a special call - a telephone call, that is.

For Topsham Museum, which is run by 200 volunteers in and around the Devon town, is about to take control of a classic red telephone box.

It will host special displays changing every two months bringing history into the centre of the town, and drawing people to the Museum proper which is located a few hundred yards away on Topsham’s historic Strand.

The box was decommissioned by BT earlier this year and was seized upon by the Museum as an ideal outpost. The shift of...

Topsham’s favourite quirky restaurant The Pig & Pallet will be closing at the end of the year.

Owner, Salami Steve explained that the sad news is due to the current economic climate making it impossible to keep delivering the high standard of food at a price still affordable to customers.

“Whilst we have looked at ways of reducing our costs, we simply weren’t prepared to lower the quality of our offering and work with anything other than the very best ingredients.

“We’re proud to have only ever used high welfare meat produce and to always champion local...

On a warm sunny Saturday evening on the 27th August, 48 intrepid swimmers bared all in aid of the mental health charity MIND Devon.

After nervously assembling on the poolside, at the allotted hour of 7.30pm the gathered group all dropped their towels and jumped naked and costume-free into the beautifully warm water of the Topsham Lido.

The ensemble of brave skinny dippers enjoyed an hour swimming, splashing about, chatting and making new friends. A few hours before clothes-off, several of the fund-raisers - some who had not met before - rendezvoused for a pre-dip drink to...

Angels and Saints: A piano recital by Stephen Beville

Now that classical music concerts have really begun again in earnest after the bad old days of lockdown, we are lucky that musicians are returning to perform in St. Margaret's Church in Topsham, and make use of its beautiful Yamaha grand piano again.

One such is Exeter pianist and composer Stephen Beville, who last played here in 2019. His new programme Angels and Saints contains one of his own compositions entitled Portrait of the Angel Raphael , plus music by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin. It concludes with Franz Liszt's, Deux Legendes, an interesting piece which celebrates both...
