Crowdfunder launched for Salmon Run 2023

Community interest company Tidelines has launched a Crowdfunder appeal to cover the costs of holding the second annual Salmon Run , on 24 September 2023. And the Aviva Community Fund has agreed to match all donations by 2:1.

The event, first run in September 2022, includes a 50-mile ultra run, a 50-mile relay and a 5k fun run – to celebrate this remarkable but endangered fish and raise awareness of its ecological and cultural significance. Salmon guides will be on hand to share information and stories about these remarkable and seriously at-risk creatures.

Mike completes 400 mile run for suicide prevention

Re-flow's Co-Founder & Managing Director, Michael Saunders, has completed his 400-mile run to raise money for the prevention charity, PAPYRUS.

Over the past four weeks, Michael has run a 10-mile commute from his home in Cheriton Fitzpaine to the Re-flow offices in Exeter, Devon. Undertaking this distance twice a day, he’s completed just under a full marathon every weekday, for 4 weeks in a row. Overall, this has amounted to 400 miles and 40,000 feet of elevation – the equivalent of scaling Mount Everest one and a half times.

Can Do Active launch new Couch to 5k

New health and wellbeing initiative, Can Do Active, are launching a new 12-week Couch to 5k programme in Exeter this Autumn, starting in October.

There will be two running groups a week, a weekday group meeting every Tuesday morning (9:30am - 10:30am) from the 5th October, and a weekend group meeting every Saturday morning (10:30am - 11:30am) from the 9th October - both starting at Exwick Playing Fields.

Michelmores launches marathon challenge in support of mental wellbeing

Michelmores has launched a brand new event: the Michelmores Marathon for Mental Wellbeing to help raise funds for national mental health charity the Charlie Waller Trust . The event will challenge participants to run a marathon (26.2 miles) but gives runners the opportunity to spread the distance over seven days and to run the distance as an individual or as part of a team.

The marathon is launched in place of the annual Michelmores 5km Charity Run, an event which typically attracts over 1000 runners to the centre of Exeter.

Exeter University students Henry Yannaghas, 21, from Suffolk and Edward Warner, also 21, from Llandudno in North Wales, have set themselves the challenge of running 48 kilometres over the course of 24 hours. The distance will be split over equal hourly stints with the aim of raising funds for the UK charity Mind .

A Devon dad is running 100-miles over 10 weeks for charity, taking his 9-month-old son Arthur along for the ride in his buggy.

Ian Chown, from Ottery-St-Mary has already travelled 86.9 miles with Arthur in tow and plans to complete the running challenge this weekend with his final run to hit 100 miles. He has already raised over £950 of his £1000 target for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal.

Exeter gets ready for Great West Run this weekend

More than 2,500 runners are preparing to pound the streets of Exeter this weekend, for the city’s 35th Great West Run and Activate events.
