More than 2,500 runners are preparing to pound the streets of Exeter this weekend, for the city’s 35th Great West Run and Activate events.
Amongst the participants are those running for charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, FORCE, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare. Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for charities and organisers Runjoy hope to top that this year.
Join us in the forest this Halloween for a Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Run! All the family will enjoy this spooktacular Shaun the Sheep themed run where trees are lit up with fabulous colour. To make you feel part of the flock, you will receive a pair of Shaun the Sheep ears and the chance to decorate them with UV paint to really make you glow before you venture into the forest. Music and chat from the MC will keep you entertained as you get your face painted (for a small charge) or grab a photo opportunity with Shaun the Sheep, who will be there to cheer you on.
Organisers of the Exeter’s Great West Run have pledged that this year’s event will not use any plastic bottles, thanks to an exciting new partnership with South West Water and Packed Meal Prep.
The half marathon, which is in its 35th year and attracts approximately 4,000 entries, will take place on 13 October, and smaller ‘Activate’ events (2.5km and 5km) which take place the day before, usually give runners plastic bottles of water both during and after the event.
In 2016, Di & Sammi Rosser took part in the Twilight Walk simply because it sounded like a fun event and they felt that Hospiscare was a charity worth supporting. They could never have imagined two years later they would be walking in memory, having placed a photo of their much loved husband and dad Jeff on their memory star and displaying it, with so many others, within the special memory tent at The Maer, Exmouth.
