Exeter dementia researchers take on 300km running challenge for Alzheimer’s Research UK

A group of eight dementia researchers from the University of Exeter are aiming to run over 301km – the distance between their laboratory and the Alzheimer’s Research UK head office in Cambridge - before the end of the summer to raise money for pioneering dementia research.

The scientists have all signed up for Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Running Down Dementia challenge.

To celebrate Aardman’s new film A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, in cinemas 18 October, Shaun the Sheep welcomes all the family to enjoy this spooktacular 3km glow run on 30 October.

The route through the trees is lit up with fantastic colour and characters from the film are there to guide your way... but beware the Hazmats! Runners each receive a pair of Shaun the Sheep ears to decorate with UV paint to really make you glow before you venture into the forest.

More than 2,500 runners are preparing to pound the streets of Exeter this weekend, for the city’s 35th Great West Run and Activate events.

Amongst the participants are those running for charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, FORCE, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare. Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for charities and organisers Runjoy hope to top that this year.

Great West Run announces plans to reduce plastic

Organisers of the Exeter’s Great West Run have pledged that this year’s event will not use any plastic bottles, thanks to an exciting new partnership with South West Water and Packed Meal Prep.

The half marathon, which is in its 35th year and attracts approximately 4,000 entries, will take place on 13 October, and smaller ‘Activate’ events (2.5km and 5km) which take place the day before, usually give runners plastic bottles of water both during and after the event.

In 2016, Di & Sammi Rosser took part in the Twilight Walk simply because it sounded like a fun event and they felt that Hospiscare was a charity worth supporting. They could never have imagined two years later they would be walking in memory, having placed a photo of their much loved husband and dad Jeff on their memory star and displaying it, with so many others, within the special memory tent at The Maer, Exmouth.

Educated Recruitment conquer Exmouth 10k

Educated Recruitment conquered the Exmouth 10k fundraising for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The Educated Recruitment Team ran the Bradley’s Exmouth 10k on Sunday (30 September) to raise money for Ronald McDonald’s House Charities.

The team completed the whole course, raising an impressive £280 for the cause and are looking forward to their next fundraising challenge!
