Rob Baxter

Another key re-signing for Chiefs

Just days after securing the long-term futures of Sam Hill and Tomas Francis, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has moved swiftly to tie down another of his first team squad until 2017.

Keen to ensure continuity within the playing ranks at Sandy Park, Baxter has now added Australian forward Mitch Lees to those extending their stay with the Aviva Premiership club.

Lees, 26, joined the Chiefs ahead of the 2014/15 season from London Welsh and quickly established himself as a key figure in Baxter’s plan, featuring in 24 games last season.

In terms of a first outing, it had a bit of everything, but Rob Baxter knows there is still plenty to work on for his Exeter Chiefs ahead of the new 2015/16 season.

Five tries in attack were certainly the key highlights, but shipping six in defence was somewhat of an issue for the experienced Exeter leader at the final whistle which saw the Chiefs victorious by 41 to 38.

Of course he will focus on both the good and the bad over the coming weeks, but it was the former which far exceeded the latter in terms of the overall package in this exciting West Country Challenge Cup...

Welsh international Tomas Francis, along with centre Sam Hill, have both put pen to paper on new deals that will keep them at Sandy Park until 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Patience pays off for Baxter

Rob Baxter insists a patient approach on the recruitment front has worked in his favour after he today welcomed talented winger James Short to the Exeter Chiefs.

The 25-year-old back is Baxter’s ninth new addition to the playing ranks at Sandy Park, joining the Devon club from Aviva Premiership rivals London Irish on a one-year deal. Never one to rush into the market just for the sake of bolstering his numbers, Baxter has diligently gone about capturing the Redhill-born player in a short space of time.

Having lost speedsters Tom James and Fetu’u Vainikolo at the end of last...

New Chief Ollie is feeling jolly

He may well be one of the new kids on the block at Sandy Park, but summer signing Ollie Atkins admits he already feels at home with the Exeter Chiefs.

A team bonding trip to Spain on his first official day with the Devon club allowed the 26-year-old Aussie to quickly get up to speed with his new team-mates following his switch from Scottish Pro12 outfit Edinburgh.

And now a couple of weeks into pre-season, the towering forward is continuing his settling in process by playing an active part during the club’s gruelling pre-season programme under the watchful eye of head coach...

Julian Salvi is bracing himself for a “non-stop season” after settling in well to life with new club Exeter Chiefs.

Having spent the past four campaigns with Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers, the 29-year-old forward has opted for a fresh start down in the Westcountry, working under the guidance of Exeter head coach Rob Baxter.

As one of a number of new faces brought to Sandy Park by Baxter during the close season, Salvi has wasted little time in getting stuck into working life in Devon, pushing himself hard during the opening weeks of the club’s pre-season...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says he's "excited" at what lies ahead after the Aviva Premiership fixtures for the 2015/16 season were confirmed this morning.

Entering into their sixth season in English rugby's top flight, Baxter will be looking for his squad to build on last season's best-ever campaign, when the Devon club narrowly missed out on a place in the end of season play-offs on points difference.

Exeter's fifth-place finish equalled that of the 2011/12 season, but their total of 68 points eclipsed that of any other year and the Chiefs leader is keen his team...

New Chiefs signing switches codes

Exeter Chiefs have switched codes to confirm the latest arrival to the playing ranks at Sandy Park next season.

Having already recruited seven new faces this summer, head coach Rob Baxter has today added St Helens Rugby League star Josh Jones on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old, who has been with the Saints since the age of 13, made his debut for the Super League outfit against Warrington in March 2012 at centre and has since gone on to establish himself as a proven performer for the Merseysiders.

Jones initially started his playing days in union with hometown club...
