Campagnaro joins the Chiefs

Italian international Michele Campagnaro says the challenge of testing himself in English rugby’s Aviva Premiership is one that excites him after he today sealed a move to Exeter Chiefs.

The 21-year-old back will depart Benetton Treviso for Sandy Park at the end of the current campaign having put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Rob Baxter’s side.

Capped 13 times by his country, Campagnaro’s arrival in the Westcountry is yet another big statement of intent from the Chiefs, who have already added both Geoff Parling and Ollie Woodburn to their ranks for the 2015/16 season...

Chiefs make last eight after powerful display

A powerful second half display saw Exeter Chiefs book their place in the last eight of this season’s European Challenge Cup with victory away to Connacht.

Having trailed 17-10 at the break, Rob Baxter’s side scored 23 unanswered points after the break to secure their fourth win in this season’s competition.

Connacht shaded a tight first half thanks to tries from Matt Healy, Willie Faloon and Danie Poolman, the last of which was converted by fly-half Jack Carty, whilst the Chiefs countered with a penalty try and a penalty from Henry Slade.

The second period, though,...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after three more of his first team squad today agreed new contracts with the Aviva Premiership club.

Props Carl Rimmer (pictured) and Ben Moon have put pen to paper on two-year deals, whilst back-row forward Kai Horstmann is extending his Sandy Park stay by another year.

The trio are the latest in a line of current Chiefs who in recent weeks have pledged their immediate futures to the Devon outfit.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists he and his teams will go “back to the bare bones” in a bid to address their recent loss of form in the Aviva Premiership.

The Devon club slipped to a fourth successive top flight defeat as Shane Geraghty’s last-gasp drop-goal gave London Irish a priceless 28-26 victory at the Madejski Stadium.

For a second successive week, it was a bitter pill to swallow for Baxter and his team who, with just over a minute remaining, appeared to be in control of proceedings having clawed their way back into the contest thanks to converted tries...

Baxter sings Lewis's praises

Rob Baxter believes Dave Lewis will get his chance to have a ‘big say’ on how the Exeter Chiefs will go over the remainder of the season.

On the day the 25-year-old committed his future to the Aviva Premiership club for the next two years, the Chiefs head coach gave the talented scrum-half a ringing endorsement of the quality he brings to his side.

A pre-season elbow injury sustained at Cardiff Blues meant Lewis was forced to sit out much of the opening half of the season, but now fully fit the former Gloucester back is looking to help the Chiefs kick on.

“Dave’s...

Scrum-half Dave Lewis has today become the latest Exeter Chiefs star to commit his long-term future to the club.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, head coach Rob Baxter has wasted little time in making sure he has the services of the talented 25-year-old for the next two years.

Since arriving from rivals Gloucester at the start of last season, Lewis has been an integral part of the Chiefs make-up and helped the Devon outfit secure their first-ever piece of silverware when they won the LV= Cup.

Although an elbow injury sustained in pre...

Chiefs side to face Bath

Rob Baxter says he wants to see a “back to basics” approach from his team as they look to tackle rivals Bath Rugby in tomorrow’s Aviva Premiership clash at a sold-out Recreation Ground (2pm).

Having seen their eight-game winning streak brought to a halt at Sale Sharks a week ago, Baxter is hoping there will be no additional festive hangover from his team as they look to return to winning ways.

With both clubs riding high at the top end of English rugby’s top flight, the battle for key league points merely adds to the spice of what is always an intriguing battle between both...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter admitted he and his team will do a bit of ‘soul-searching’ in the aftermath of their 18-11 Aviva Premiership defeat at Sale Sharks.

The Chiefs slipped to their first defeat in nine games at the AJ Bell as a Danny Cipriani inspired Sharks brought an abrupt halt to Baxter’s in-form side.

England fly-half Cipriani claimed one of two tries for the home side, the other came from winger Mark Cueto, as well as adding two penalties and a conversion to fire Steve Diamond’s side back into the top four.

The Chiefs countered with Thomas...

Baxter delighted as trio sign new deals

Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after another three members of his Exeter Chiefs squad today pledged their long-term futures to the Aviva Premiership.

Having already secured the services of both Phil Dollman and Gareth Steenson in recent weeks, the Chiefs head coach has now added Don Armand, Will Chudley and Matt Jess (pictured) to the club’s retained list.

With the contracts of all three players due to expire at the end of the current campaign, Baxter has wasted little time in tying down the futures of three of his core first-team squad.

Chudley and Jess have...

Fly-half Ceri Sweeney insists it’s imperative the Exeter Chiefs make the most of home advantage this weekend as they looked to kick on in this season’s European Challenge Cup.

At the halfway stage of Pool Two qualification, Rob Baxter’s side sit top of the pile having netted 11 points from their opening three games.

Five of those points came a week ago as the Chiefs secured maximum reward from a 36-10 victory away to French hosts La Rochelle at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.

Tries from Tom James, Brett Sturgess, Byron McGuigan and Fetu’u Vainikolo, coupled with a 16-...
