Baxter hails Waldrom's award

Rob Baxter believes the decision to award Thomas Waldrom the Aviva Premiership Player of the Month for November is “fully justified” after a highly promising start to his Exeter Chiefs career.

The 31-year-old has been the club’s stand-out figure so far this term, scoring seven tries in nine Premiership starts, to help the Chiefs position themselves in the top three of English rugby’s top flight.

His arrival this summer on a three-year deal from Leicester Tigers was questioned by some media observers who believed the England international had produced his best form whilst at...

Baxter hails Steenson's contribution

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has praised the contribution Gareth Steenson has played in helping the Devon club establish themselves as a force within the English game.

Welcoming the news the Irish fly-half has this week agreed terms on a new three-year deal that will keep him at Sandy Park until 2018, Baxter wasted little time in reflecting on the contribution put in by the Dungannon-born back.

“There’s no magic ingredient,” said Baxter. “Steeno has improved over a period because his gained more and more experience in the Premiership and in Europe and those...

Steenson agrees new Chiefs deal

Gareth Steenson says he is is looking forward to an exciting future ahead after today committing himself to Aviva Premiership club Exeter Chiefs for a further three years.

Just a week after team-mate Phil Dollman confirmed he was staying at Sandy Park, 30-year-old Steenson is the latest member of Rob Baxter’s squad to confirm he will be prolonging his stay at Sandy Park.

Steenson, who joined the Devon club in 2008 from the Cornish Pirates, has already written his name into Exeter folklore with his on-field achievements which, to date, have seen him amass a staggering 1,565...

Bateman says Chiefs boys are buzzing

Greg Bateman believes lessons learnt last season by the Exeter Chiefs are paying dividends this term with the Devon club riding high in the Aviva Premiership.

Rob Baxter’s side finished last season’s Premiership campaign in eighth spot, matching the same position that they finished in their inaugural season amongst English rugby’s elite.

It was a disappointing outcome for the Chiefs, especially having landed top six finishes in their two previous seasons.

There were, however, mitigating factors according to head coach Baxter, who not only saw his side slip to a...

New deal for Dollman at Chiefs

In what promises to be a week to remember for Phil Dollman, not only is the Exeter Chiefs back poised to run out for his 100th league appearance this weekend, but he has today confirmed a new two-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

Signed in 2009 from the Newport-Gwent Dragons, the talented Welshman has played an integral part in the recent rise of the Chiefs.

In his first season at Sandy Park, Dollman helped the Devon club to get promoted into the Premiership and has since gone on to be a key figure in Rob Baxter’s squad as the Chiefs took on the elite of both the...

Tomas Francis believes Friday night’s first-ever win at Northampton Saints could be a defining point for the Exeter Chiefs moving forward this season.

Rob Baxter’s side moved up to second in the Aviva Premiership standings, just two points behind the Saints, following their 24-18 victory at Franklin’s Gardens.

A powerful first half display from the visitors saw them storm into a 21-6 lead at the break thanks to converted tries from Luke Cowan-Dickie and Thomas Waldrom (2).

Fly-half Gareth Steenson slotted the extras to all three scores, as well as adding a second...

Chiefs 'quietly satisfied' with Saints win

Rob Baxter and his team admitted they had been left “quietly satisfied” after they secured a first-ever Aviva Premiership win at champions Northampton Saints.

Converted first half tries from Luke Cowan-Dickie and Thomas Waldrom (2) paved the way for a fifth top flight win of the campaign - and moved Baxter’s side into second spot, just two points behind their hosts who despite a strong second half display eventually went down 24-18.

Tom Stephenson and Jamie Elliott claimed Northampton’s tries on the night, whilst fly-half Stephen Myler weighed in with the remainder of their...

Landmark victory for Exeter Chiefs

If Rob Baxter wanted a barometer of how his side are progressing, then winning at the reigning Aviva Premiership champions isn’t a bad starting point.

Thomas Waldrom’s first half try double, together with an earlier touchdown from Luke Cowan-Dickie, helped pave the way for a first-ever win for the Exeter Chiefs at Northampton’s Franklin’s Gardens. Fly-half

Gareth Steenson completed the job for the visitors as he converted all three tries, as well as adding a second half penalty.

The win lift the Chiefs to second in the table, a point behind the Saints who themselves...

White targets Bath scalp

Ben White is hoping Exeter Chiefs can maintain their impressive home record this season by adding the name of Bath Rugby to those who have come unstuck at Sandy Park.

With the exception of Leicester Tigers, who edged a narrow encounter in Devon back in September, the Chiefs have seen off all before them on home soil, including the likes of Harlequins, London Irish, Connacht and, more recently, Gloucester in the LV= Cup.

Aussie forward White recognises having a solid home base will be a key feature for the Chiefs this season and says another victory this Saturday will help...

Chiefs side to face London Irish

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says he wants to see a response from his players following last weekend’s Aviva Premiership loss at Newcastle Falcons.

Having gone into the game at Kingston Park buoyed by notable wins over Gloucester (away) and Harlequins (home), Devon’s finest hit a speed bump in the North East as the Falcons claimed their first league win in 20 games with a 29-24 success.

It was a disappointing outcome for the Chiefs, who with 20 minutes remaining in the contest were in front 24-17. However, late tries from Tom Catterick and Noah Cato proved decisive...
