Baxter delighted as McGuigan signs on

Rob Baxter believes there is “more to come” from Byron McGuigan after the talented back today agreed to extend his stay with the Exeter Chiefs for another year at least.

The 25-year-old Namibian was initially brought to Sandy Park last November following as injury cover for compatriot Chrysander Botha, who was ruled out for much of the campaign after breaking his leg whilst away on international duty.

However, McGuigan quickly settled to life in the Westcountry and by the end of the season had accrued 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring three tries in the process...

Awards haul for Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs players were among the major winners at the 2015 Aviva Premiership Annual Awards Night held at the Hilton Park Lane on Wednesday night.

After another hugely successful season – on and off the field at Sandy Park – Henry Slade, Thomas Waldrom and departing skipper Dean Mumm were among those to pick up prizes at the glitzy ceremony.

On a night when many young players took centre stage the Land Rover Discovery of the Season award, for the best Under-23 player in Aviva Premiership Rugby, went to playmaker Slade.

The Plymouth-born back has emerged from an...

In the end the play-off dream fell just short, but already Exeter Chiefs winger Matt Jess is setting his sights highs for next season in the Aviva Premiership.

After 22 rounds of top flight battle, the Chiefs were narrowly edged out on points’ difference by rivals Leicester Tigers and Saracens for one of the two remaining play-off berths.

For Chiefs players, officials and supporters the emotions following their final-day 44-16 success over Sale Sharks were somewhat bittersweet. Rob Baxter’s side could have done no more on the day, producing a seven-try display that ensured...

Chiefs do themselves proud

In the end it wasn’t quite to be for Exeter Chiefs, but boy did Rob Baxter’s troops give it one hell of a go in their final Aviva Premiership battle of the season.

With results in Leicester and Oxford ultimately transpiring against them, Devon’s finest just missed out in the final shake-up as the Tigers and Saracens joined Northampton Saints and Bath in next week’s play-off semi-finals.

In truth, the Chiefs could have done no more, seven tries on the day courtesy of Ian Whitten, Jack Nowell, Ben White, Matt Jess (2), Henry Slade and Byron McGuigan were the highlights as...

Baxter hails Salvi arrival

For the second time this season, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has raided Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers for one of their prized assets.

Having already recruited England and British Lions lock Geoff Parling for next season, Baxter has moved swiftly to add the name of club-mate Julian Salvi to the Sandy Park roster for the next two years.

Widely regarded as one of the most destructive forwards in European rugby, Salvi’s arrival in the Westcountry is yet another telling addition to what is looking a formidable Chiefs squad for the 2015/16 season.

Chiefs thwart Saracens

There was no ‘Fat Lady Singing’ this time, instead it was the travelling tribe who were in full voice at the final whistle as Exeter Chiefs overcame rivals Saracens to claim a first-ever victory at Allianz Park.

Two tries from the free-scoring Thomas Waldrom (pictured), plus another from hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie, were the undoubted highlights for the visitors, whose hard fought win has edged them back into the final play-off berth with just one round of the scheduled season remaining.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson converted all three scores, as well as adding a first half...

Mcguigan up for the fight

With just two rounds of the scheduled Aviva Premiership season to go, Byron McGuigan says the belief is there within the Exeter Chiefs ranks to go and book themselves a first-ever play-off place. Although defeated 36-29 at rivals Wasps last Sunday, Rob Baxter's side remain just one place and one point away from the crucial top four placings. Next up for the Devon club is a trip to fellow play-off challengers Saracens on Sunday, May 10, before they wrap their campaign up with a home engagement with Sale Sharks on Saturday, May 16. As McGuigan acknowledged post-match at the Ricoh Arena, the...

New Chiefs deal for Sexton

Rob Baxter insists he was happy to reward the hard work put in by Jerry Sexton as the young Irishman was today awarded a new one-year deal with the Exeter Chiefs.

The 22-year-old lock initially joined the Devon club on a three-month trial in August last year as Baxter looked to bring in sufficient cover whilst club captain Dean Mumm was still recovering from shoulder surgery.

However, the former Leinster Academy player - who spent the 2013/14 campaign playing in France with second tier side Auch, did enough during that time to convince Baxter to keep him on board until the...

Baxter likes what he sees in new prop

As he has proved for a number of years now, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter isn’t afraid to put his trust in players from the Championship making the step up to life in the Aviva Premiership.

Today, the Chiefs leader has added his latest new face to the club’s playing ranks for next season with the signing of prop Harry Williams from Jersey.

The talented tight-head, who has agreed a two-year deal with the Sandy Park outfit, is Baxter’s seventh new addition for next term and his second is as many weeks from English rugby’s second tier.

Williams follows Nottingham...

Another new signing for Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs are continuing their busy period of recruitment for next season with young prop Harry Williams the latest name added to the playing roster for the 2015/16 season.

The 23-year-old, tight-head prop is Rob Baxter’s seventh recent signing having agreed terms on a two-year deal from Championship side Jersey.

An upcoming front-row force, Williams has nurtured his rugby career initially as a youngster at Wasps, before moving on for spells with Loughborough University, Nottingham and, more recently, Jersey.

Standing at 6’2” and weighing in at just over 20...
