Ginger Baker's Jazz Fusion

Event Date:
12/06/2013 - 8:00pm
Venue:
Exeter Phoenix

Once voted as ‘the musician least likely to survive the 60s’, over four decades later ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker has proved them all wrong, returning to the UK after living abroad for many years, with a formidable quartet of funk and jazz giant Pee Wee Ellis (tenor sax), Alec Dankworth (bass) and Ghanaian percussionist Abass Dodoo.

The music is a healthy mix of Thelonius Monk, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, plus originals from Messrs Ellis and Baker – a challenging and fresh sound with Baker and Dodoo providing a perfect powerhouse of rhythms.

The Sorting Office will be situated in the grounds of the Exeter Phoenix Car Park.

A redundant Post Master seeks solace in the bosom of an infamous Great Aunt but finds himself instead...

Together they play fiddle, guitar, assorted squeezebox instruments, a stomp box and they both sing – a combination which sounds like a two-man-one-man-band! Their music is equally at home playing to 50 people in the intimate setting of the back room of a pub, or 10,000 on the main stage at...

For the workshop on 31 October, Steven will present aspects of the archive that he has found intriguing – namely how Baskin worked and corresponded with Hughes, how text/writing works with the image, including the notion of the press or publishing of works, and, as it is auspiciously Hallowe'en, how a...

Phoenix Breakfast - Ottery St Mary

I would like to talk breakfast groups. OAC Ltd have been to many breakfast group meetings in and around Exeter in our time and indeed still do. What about you? Does your MD see a regular expenses claim for breakfast, if so, what do tell him he gets for his investment? What do you, maybe as the one who spends pounds putting on the lbs every week want from breakfast meeting, is a good breakfast the whole story? I have had bad breakfasts at great breakfast meetings. What makes it work?

Do you have a regular business lunch meeting? Which time of day is best? Lets face it, if we had the...
