The Last Post is a brand new first class performance, devised and delivered by Kilter Theatre. Set to an original “harmony-drenched, melancholy-tinged” live score and performed at extremely close quarters in the back of Mobile Sorting Office 451 – a lovingly converted bright red van crammed with retro-chic details from a much-traveled life, a thousand items of real mail and seating for just 17. The Sorting Office will be situated in the grounds of the Exeter Phoenix Car Park.

A redundant Post Master seeks solace in the bosom of an infamous Great Aunt but finds himself instead confronted by the irrepressible heiress of an international pen-palling agency, harbouring a horde of undeliverable parcels, including a mute musician playing the soundtrack to her life from a shelf stuffed with jiffy bags.

MSO 451 is “a wizard’s horde, an anorak’s obssesion”, saturated in authentic historical and peculiar letter writing accoutrements, a working pen-pal exchange board, a sherry decanter and a ping-pong set. Post-performances, audiences are invited to linger and probe to the gentle whir of a touring wind-turbine which sets off this latest chapter in Kilter’s pioneering approach to low-carbon theatre-making.

Two shows daily at 1pm and 7.30pm.
