Christmas returns to Castle Drogo after 7 years

Castle Drogo will be open for Christmas for the first time since a major conservation project began seven years ago to make the building watertight.

Although the building work now has the end in sight, there is still much work to be done to restore the castle’s grounds and interiors back into the Drewe’s family home, which is likely to continue into 2020. However, the building is now watertight, meaning that Christmas can return to the castle once again.

New excavation at Dartmoor Medieval Manor

This month archaeologists will be working with the local community in Widecombe in the Moor to try and uncover more of the secrets buried at the site of one of only four moated medieval manor houses in Devon.

North Hall Manor has, in recent years, been the subject of a series of archaeological excavations which have revealed much about this enigmatic site in Dartmoor National Park.

Ladies Do Lympstone - again!

Last time, it was hard hats and high viz jackets all round as Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed an exclusive preview of Lympstone Manor, celebrity chef Michael Caines’ new country house hotel.

Four months on, the dress code was definitely summer for the Ladies’ first lunch there since it officially opened.

Archaeologists lead community dig on lost Dartmoor Manor

From Monday 27 June until Saturday 2 July 2016 archaeologists will be returning to the site of North Hall Manor in Widecombe-in-the-Moor to continue investigations into this intriguing site.

This will be the third season of excavation. The first phase in 2012 targeted the medieval manor site and revealed wall footings, boundary works and pottery that strongly suggest a high status medieval building once stood in the area.

The excavation this year will continue to investigate some of the features unearthed in previous digs with the hope of finding out more about their age...
