Easter egg campaign a 'cracker'

Local charity Hospiscare encouraged local people and businesses to get involved with their Easter campaign by raffling an Easter egg in their local community.

Amongst those that took part were the University of Exeter, The Hospiscare retails shops and many more.

Hospiscare provided participants with a yummy Easter egg and lucky squares which could be raffled off for just £1 per entry.

The Fore Street shop in Exeter raised an amazing £200 selling their tickets, and Drakes Cafe in Exeter raffled an egg as well as donating to help with their campaign.

On Saturday 3 May the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus will become a hive of activity as gardening enthusiasts and families flock to explore some of the hidden gems of the 280 acre estate. Friends swim their way to thousands of pounds for local charity

Two friends from Exeter have raised over £2,200 between them for local charity Hospiscare. Suzanne Lovelace and Sadie Evans, landlady at The Royal Oak, St Thomas set themselves the “Channel Challenge”; swimming the width of the channel within a two week window in February. The channel is 22 miles long, the equivalent of 1,408 lengths of a 25 meter pool. Suzanne, who is 70 in June said she would “do it all over again” upon completion of the challenge. Hospiscare boosted by donation from SWW

Hospiscare has received over £ 700 from South West Water who named Hospiscare as their charity of the year for 2013.

Their kind donation will help to support local people across Exeter, mid and east Devon who are living with a terminal illness.

Hospiscare Celebrates 10th Year of Open Gardens

Spring has sprung and people across Exeter, mid and east Devon are preparing to open their garden for Hospiscare’s 10th Summer of Open Garden’s.

There are over 35 gardens taking part of all shapes and sizes including; urban spaces, hotel grounds and gardens full of wild flowers. Throughout the summer gardens will be opened to the public with a range of plants, animals and trees to admire as well as homemade refreshments to enjoy.

Hospiscare volunteer, David Harvey is taking on the South West Coastal Path challenge.

On Monday 21 April, Dave is setting off from Minehead, Somerset and will be walking 630 miles until he reaches Poole in Dorset, 43 days later.

Dave is walking in support of three charities; Sheltbox, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare.

Last year, Dave took part in the Hospiscare Skydive raising £1,000 for the local charity. This year Dave will be tackling a different type of challenge.

Exeter couple prepare for annual Garden Party

An Exeter couple are inviting people into their garden in May in aid of a local charity Hospiscare.

Mr and Mrs Macan will be opening their garden at Orchard House, Deepdene Park on Saturday 24 May between 2pm and 5pm for a ‘’Garden Party’’ open to everybody.

Jessica MaCan has been involved with Hospiscare for 10 years whilst her husband Matthew is Orchard House’s gardener (along with a little extra help!).

Free wills during Hospiscare’s Will Writing Fortnight

Free wills are on offer in May as part of Hospiscare’s Will Writing Fortnight. Thirty local solicitors are taking part in Will Writing Fortnight, which runs from May 12 to 23, they are giving up their time to write up new Wills and update old ones. Local solicitors offering this service are giving people the chance to make a donation to Hospiscare instead of paying the normal fee.

Take on the Jurassic Coast for Hospiscare

Local charity Hospiscare are looking for people to take on a hilly challenge this July.

From 3-6 July a team of walkers will be taking in the beautiful Jurassic Coastline on a moderately challenging walk along the Jurassic coastal path in support of Hospiscare.

The 3 day challenge will start at Weymouth and finish after three days of walking in Swanage, at South Haven Point.

Hospiscare were delighted to receive a cheque of £7,000 from Marks and Spencer in Exeter.

Members of the Fundraising Committee at M&S on Exeter High Street have been working hard all year to raise funds for the local hospice which has been their nominated charity of the year.
