Hospiscare volunteer, David Harvey is taking on the South West Coastal Path challenge.

On Monday 21 April, Dave is setting off from Minehead, Somerset and will be walking 630 miles until he reaches Poole in Dorset, 43 days later.

Dave is walking in support of three charities; Sheltbox, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare.

Last year, Dave took part in the Hospiscare Skydive raising £1,000 for the local charity.  This year Dave will be tackling a different type of challenge.

Dave will be walking for 43 days and, with the typical English weather, this will no doubt involve a mixture of seasons.

Dave had this to say aboout his challenge; “During April and May 2014 I will be challenging myself and nature by walking the 630 mile South West Coast Path in 43 days. I will be carrying a rucksack and a tent and will be spending many of my 42 nights under canvass….not bad for a 63 year old!

‘’I will be undertaking this challenge in memory of my father and for three marvellous South West Charities which support families currently experiencing serious illness and, support those that have lost loved ones.’’

Events Fundraiser Celia Wilkinson said; “Dave has set himself an amazing challenge.  Walking 630 miles is tough, but add to that the camping element and weather and the challenge suddenly becomes harder!

‘’Dave’s been fundraising already, by collecting at local stores in and around Tiverton and has so fair raised over £500 which is absolutely amazing.  We will be keeping an eye on Dave’s progress throughout the 43 days and will be visiting him en route.

‘’We’re all wishing him the best of luck and keeping our fingers crossed for an early dose of summer weather!”
