Hospiscare Service of Light

Join us at the St Paul's Church for this special service, where Hospiscare's Book of Memories will be available to view, and will remain until Twelfth Night.

This uplifting service of remembrance is open to all, and includes carols, readings and prayers.

The Tree of Light will be shining with lights in dedication on the Cathedral Green in Exeter until 6 January.

It will be lit every evening at dusk.

Local MP presets petition to defend rural spending

Last night, Neil Parish MP, presented the Rural Fair Share Petition signed by the residents of Tiverton and Honiton. The Rural Fair Share campaign is calling on the Government to address the ongoing disparity in funding between rural and urban areas.

The campaign is set up to counter policies such as the rural penalty which sees urban areas receive 50% more support per head than rural areas. Remembrance Concert

The Sheldon Singers will perform Howard Goodall's Eternal Light, followed, after an interval for refreshments, by a performance by the Taunton-based Collegium Singers of For the Fallen, a requiem written by Peter Leech, the MD of the Collegium Singers, and dedicated to 40 Commando Royal Marines.

No entrance fee will be charged at either venue but the audience will be encouraged to donate generously to the work of the Royal British Legion.

Art activity family drop-in

THG are running a family drop-in art activity making paper lace jewellery from 11am to 4pm.

This fun half-term activity will involve making brooches, fascinators and bangles from a combination of real and paper-cut lace.

Suggested donation is £2 per child.

The event is suitable for children six years old and upwards.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, as this workshop involves using sharp scissors.

A group of local business people have been adding a new dimension to breakfast to raise much needed funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund. The Honiton group of 4Networking used their fun fines system to fill an ELF collection box. Group leader Dominique Bailhache explained, “We have really enjoyed raising money for ELF. 4Networking provides an environment for local business people to get together and get to know each other. More people choosing to do other things leads to review of Council day services

More people with care needs are choosing to use money allocated to them by the Council, through personal budgets, to pursue hobbies and interests or access local activities, groups and clubs than attend Council-run day centres.

The numbers of people accessing day centres in Devon have fallen by nearly 66% since 2005. Some of the Council’s day centres now have just a small number of attendees, and service users and carers are telling the Council that it needs to modernise.
