Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital following serious collision near Honiton

Police were called to the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway of the A30 near Honiton this afternoon.

Officers were called at 3.30pm after reports of a collision between a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was treated by paramedics at the scene and then airlifted to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries.

The A30 is reported to be closed with queueing traffic westbound between Daisy Mount Cross in Marsh Green and the B3184 junction in Poltimore.

Bus services to Cranbrook launch next week

New bus services linking to Cranbrook will be launched next week. The Services 4, 4A and 4B will be introduced on Tuesday (28 May) and will replace services 60, 60A, 60B, X60 and 380 on the route between Exeter, Clyst Honiton, Cranbrook, Ottery St. Mary, Honiton and Axminster.

Devon County Council is using developer contributions to fund the services, and its existing funding for Service 380 along this route will also continue towards the additional services.

Have you seen the Queen’s Jubilee Sculpture on the side of Honiton Leisure Centre?

The sculpture was designed by six-year-old Alfie Gibbins from Fenny Bridges near Honiton.

Last year, East Devon District Council's Chairman, Councillor Peter Halse, asked young people to draw their ideas for a sculpture to celebrate young people for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Hundreds of enthusiastic children and young people who live in East Devon entered the competition in the hope of getting their drawing made into a real-life sculpture and installed in their local park.

East Devon District Council is encouraging local people and visitors to nominate its popular public gallery in Honiton for an award recognising its family-friendly status.

New and soon-to-be parents in East Devon are being invited to a series of events promoting Real Nappy use around the district next week.

Free real nappy trial kits and expert advice are on offer at a series of drop-in events in many of the district’s towns. It’s all part of celebrating the national Real Nappy Week (15–19 April).

Police appeal following attempted robbery in Honiton

Police in Honiton are appealing for information following an attempted robbery. The incident occurred at around 7.55pm on Tuesday 5 March in New Street Honiton. The victim, a woman aged 40 years was approached by a man who assaulted her by grabbing her right shoulder and spun her around to face him. He then grabbed her bag and punched her in the face. The victim kicked the man and was able to get her bag back before the suspect ran off. The victim was conveyed to hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured. Prank puts lives at risk in Honiton

Offenders put the lives of police officers at risk by tampering with road signs on a blind bend near Honiton. The culprits dragged two large temporary triangular warning signs and sandbags into the middle of the A30 near Yarcombe in the early hours of Saturday (2 March). The signs had been by the side of the road on a blind bend in a wooded area at Hilltop. A police unit and ambulance on a 999 call to help a person with medical difficulties had to take emergency action to avoid a collision.
