Neil Parish MP finds out all about Scout Community Week

Neil Parish met Scouts from 1st Honiton last week at a unique event inside the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the success of Scout Community Week, which took place in May last year. Neil and 1st Honiton were joined by other Scouts from across the UK who took part in Scout Community week to thank them for their contribution. From 3rd – 9th June 2013 hundreds of Scout Groups will once again participate in a week of community action aimed at improving their local area, raising funds and highlighting Scouting’s need for more adult volunteers.

At the event, B&Q, supporters of Scout Community Week, ran practical sessions of their ‘Kids Can Do It Class’.  We were also joined by Channel 4’s “The Restoration Man” George Clarke who offered his advice and support for the next generation of budding DIY enthusiasts.

Neil said, “I was delighted to attend the event and meet 1st Honiton to say a big thank you for taking part in Scout Community Week last year. There were some hugely inspiring projects and young people who attended and look forward to seeing an even bigger and better Scout Community Week in June this year!”

Sam, 11, who attended said, “I loved doing Scout Community Week last year as it meant we were helping other people.  Being a Scout means that I can go camping, have fun and make new friends.”

Scout Community Week will be taking place across the country from 3-9 June this year. www.scouts.org.uk/scoutcommunityweek
