Devon and Cornwall Police are expected to close more than half of their public front offices in a controversial bid to save money. Across the two counties the force is expected to fully close 10 out of 21 public front offices while the Newquay desk will only open during summer. The public desks at Exmouth, Tiverton, Honiton, Okehampton, Newton Abbot, Totnes Falmouth, Penzance, Launceston, Bude and Liskeard will all be closed under the plans. New Measures designed to help home and business owners protect their properties from future flood events were approved by East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) Cabinet meeting this week.

Cabinet Members agreed to give delegated authority to the Chief Executive to administer the East Devon elements of a scheme that forms part of a nationwide Government initiative prompted by the devastating storms and floods experienced during the past winter.

Free kit 'Boxes' available near Honiton

Equipment for a wide range of activities is now available free of charge near Honiton following a successful bid by the town council. The bid for £12,500 funded a series of ‘boxes’ containing kit for a wide range of activities, such as the film-making and screening ‘box’, including items like camcorders, laptops, microphones, projector and tripods. Tickets selling fast for Sausage & Cider Festival

Organisers of the inaugural Honiton Sausage & Cider Festival on May 3 are advising the public that tickets will not be available to purchase on the gate, such has been the response to online booking.

The festival, which is being held to raise money for emergency out-of-hours voluntary medical courier service Devon Freewheelers and other good causes, promises great entertainment with live music acts Sweet Black Angels, Ollie Bowern, Fools and Horses, Diamondogz plus headliners, The Wurzels.

Police find body in search for missing man

Police searching for missing Honiton man, Damian Hart, have found a body near Feniton.

The body was found in a rural outbuilding near Feniton at around 10:40am on Tuesday (April 8).

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a file is being prepared on behalf of HM Cornoner.

Mr Hart, 38, was reported missing by a family member on Saturday afternoon after going out to a local pub in Feniton at around 8pm on the Friday night.

New Design for £90,000 Skate Park

Young people from Honiton have now chosen a second £90,000 design for their skate park at voting events held by East Devon District Council. A second round of voting was called by the council after the 1st choice company, voted for in December last year, was unable to fulfil their contract. A significant number of Young people took part in the three voting events to pick another design with 58% picking the new design by skate park design company Maverick. Increasing Concern for Missing Honiton Man

Police are becoming increasingly concerned as to the welfare and whereabouts of a man who has been missing from the Honiton area since April 4. Damian Hart, aged 38, is from the Feniton area of Honiton and is described as being 6' 2" tall, of medium to large build with short, dark brown hair and tatoos on both arms. He normally has stubble growth. He was reported missing by a family member on Saturday afternoon after going out to a local pub in Feniton at around 8pm on the Friday night. Council agrees to review business accommodation support

With the possible sale of land at Heathpark Estate in Honiton, East Devon District Council’s Cabinet has agreed to a review of the council’s provision of serviced business accommodation.

The land sale is likely to mean East Devon Business Centre may be replaced by a supermarket, subject to planning approval, so a review of the demand and supply of managed workspace will help inform future decisions on council support to small and medium sized businesses.

As the first Honiton Sausage & Cider Festival draws nearer, the call is out for East Devon cider fans and businesses to lend a helping hand.

Ticket sales for the festival, on May 3 are going really well and the music line-up continues to grow with Diamondogz, Sweet Black Angels, Fools and Horses, Ollie Bowern and headliners The Wurzels all confirmed and more to come.

Trade stalls and food and drink stands are booking up nicely and with lots going on for all the family this promises to be a great day.

Officers investigating a robbery in Honiton have released CCTV footage of a man they are urgently trying to trace. This distressing footage shows the moment the man entered the antique shop at around 9am on Saturday 22 March and grabbed the female staff member from behind.
