Local filmmaker is Seeing Red

Newton Abbot writer/director, Luke Jeffery, 22, has been commissioned to make his film Seeing Red by Exeter Phoenix as part of their Devon Short Film Commission scheme, and is currently auditioning actors and crew.

Set in the 1960s, the surreal comedy is about a straight-laced wedding photographer who is prescribed LSD in a misguided attempt to cure his colour blindness, and will be filmed in and around Exeter and Newton Abbot. The film willpremiere at the Exeter Phoenix’s Two Short Nights film festival on December 12th.

Charity abseil boosts funds for CHSW

On Monday 19 May, Ashfords staff made their way to Canonteign Falls, the highest waterfall in England at an impressive 220ft, to abseil down for CHSW.

With the help of the Royal Marines, all 15 participants made it safely down the steep and slippery rock face.

Faced with the prospect of a 220ft descent down a craggy cliff and waterfall the team showed great courage and team spirit. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all, even by those who were pale and shaking at the top, with an impressive £1,743 raised for Ashfords charity of the year, CHSW.

The husband of a Devon woman killed while on a fundraising cycle challenge has thanked donators from around the world for their generosity. Sharon Bridgman, 38, was killed in April after she was struck by a motorist whilst on a round-the-world, to raise money for the charity Shelterbox, with her husband. Blind fundraiser takes on 100km challenge

Tricia Sail, 40, from Exeter, will be going that extra mile to raise funds for Fight for Sight, a charity close to her heart. On 24 May, Tricia, who was diagnosed with Uveitis in 2013, will be walking 100km from London to Brighton with friends for the main UK's charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease. The challenge will be extremely difficult as Tricia has lost the sight in her right eye and only has 20 per cent vision in her left. Princesshay raises £7,500 for MS Society

Friends of Sharon Bridgman help to reach her fundraising target

Friends of a Devon woman killed in a car crash while on a fundraising cycle challenge have pledged to help raise her target goal of £10,000.

Sharon Bridgman, 38 was killed last Saturday (26 April) after she was struck by a motorist whilst cycling across the Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, with her husband Tim.

Sharon and Tim Bridgman, from Zeal Monachorum near Okehampton, were in Bolivia as part of a round-the-world cycle challenge to raise £10,000 for the international disaster relief charity, Shelterbox.

Hospiscare were delighted to receive a cheque of £7,000 from Marks and Spencer in Exeter.

Members of the Fundraising Committee at M&S on Exeter High Street have been working hard all year to raise funds for the local hospice which has been their nominated charity of the year.

On Saturday 29 March, generous local people shimmied, skipped and shook their way to raising £193 at a Zumbathon for Headway Devon, the local brain injury charity.
