Half term family fun at RAMM

This May half-term holiday there are extra events planned for families with children at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM).

The free bee bags and explorer bags, interactives and the World Cultures family area gallery are always available and always popular with children. On the Tuesday there will also be an opportunity to handle genuine objects from the Second World War and from Tuesday to Thursday there are special activities.

Festival brings together the best of Devon

Scrumpstock Festival is set to become an annual event as it brings together musicians, entertainers, leisure businesses, causes, town dignitaries, community groups and food, drink and bespoke goods producers from Exmouth and around Devon for a weekend at Exmouth Rugby Club.

Brian Steffens from Dawlish has just joined the musical line-up. He is the father in law of Caz Steffens, the founder of the Snooky Trust, a charity that helps young adults in the Dawlish area, which is benefiting from the festival proceeds.

Following a short break, Forever Young Sing for Fun return on Monday 13 April.

We are looking for new singers who would like an alternative to a choir.

Since January 2007, Forever Young have met on most Monday evenings, from 7-9pm, at St Sidwell’s School, York Road, Exeter. In two hours we sing around 30 songs, chosen by singers, from a list of over 600 songs. A generation of children are growing up without experiencing simple pleasures such as splashing in puddles or mud, building a sandcastle - or even making daisy chains, a study has revealed.

Researchers found a whole range of traditional nature activities could soon become a thing of the past as children spend their spare time playing computer games, watching TV or just hanging out with friends instead.

Playing in open spaces and woodland, planting their own seeds and climbing trees are also among the activities a large number of today’s youngsters have never tried.
