Ashclyst Dairy, a tenant farm at Killerton, was the overall food winner in England and Wales for its organic natural yoghurt and Killerton estate itself also fought off stiff competition to take home awards for its sparkling cider, charcoal, firewood logs, and Clyston Mill stoneground flour.

Bellissimo dining at Bella Italia

This week, I was sent on a mission to sample Rylan Clark’s new dish created exclusively for Bella Italia, Pesto Pollo Pasta.

Now, I have to admit that I have lived just outside Exeter for eight years and I had never stepped foot inside Bella Italia on Queen Street before . If you haven’t ventured inside either, then you are most definitely missing out on a little treasure amongst the eateries of Exeter.

The ambiance is wonderful – relaxed, intimate and cosy with delicious typically Italian aromas of garlic and basil. Having spent a week in Sorrento eleven years ago, this...

Jim and Lucy Fisher, founders of Exeter Cookery School - due to launch later this year on Exeter’s historic quayside - were cooking up a storm at the pre-launch of their exciting new venture. Held at the swish showroom of Sapphire Spaces in Topsham, Jim and Lucy entertained the crowd of food lovers with a tantalising taste of what’s in store from this dynamic duo.

Jim entertained with a cookery demonstration, with help from members of the audience, and everyone enjoyed some tempting treats such as minted pea soup and duck confit with panko breadcrumbs, washed down with some pink...

We are very fortunate to live just outside Exeter, a city which now boasts a vast array of assorted eateries, bars and restaurants and we endeavour to dine out with our two boys at least once a month and have done this since the boys were small as I did with my parents introducing them to new flavours and learning to behave impeccably when dining out amongst the ‘grown-ups’. We have a favourite selection of restaurants we tend to frequent and were excited about the prospect of trying somewhere new.

The boys were particularly keen when I said that they would have to review their...

Beware of lurking bbq bugs

As the school summer holidays get into full swing, a survey has found that the humble chicken is likely to be in high demand on barbecues in the South West. Bangers and burgers have lost out as 29% of people in the South West named chicken as their top pick .

Encouragingly, 29% of people in the South West said they take extra care when cooking chicken on the barbecue. However 22% said they never worry about it, despite the fact that over a quarter of a million people fall ill every year due to campylobacter, the bug most often carried on raw poultry.
