This theme offers fresh insights into one or more of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. The Elizabethans believed that all ‘matter’ was composed of just these 4 elements. Whilst understanding has progressed since then with the discovery of the periodic table, they were long-held beliefs, going back to ancient civilisations.

Celebrating a new collaboration of the South West's animation courses, the New Year kicks off at THG with Degrees of Animation, part of 2014’s Animated Exeter festival.

Focusing on the work of some of the most exciting new talent to graduate from animation courses across the South West, this year's Animated Exeter exhibition gives an insight into the work involved in producing even the shortest animation. Exeter art lovers are in for a very rare treat as an exhibition of original Pablo Picasso lithographs, etchings, linocuts and screen prints has been announced by leading gallery, gloss – Art Exeter.

The iconic Spanish modernist was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century and was equally accomplished in a range of media including painting, sculpture, ceramics and fine art prints. This particular exhibition will look at the different methods Pablo Picasso and his contemporaries used to explore their own body of work.

Exmouth artist Michael Buckland is known locally for his vibrant and colourful paintings. This will be evidenced in this exhibition of new paintings of A la Ronde. Included will be exterior views of the house, the apple orchard and visitors enjoying a cream tea under the ash tree. Interior subjects will show the quirky and individual character of the rooms. Light reflected from mirrors and windows has caught his painter's eye.

Outrageous Fortune: Artists Remake the Tarot

An exhibition showcasing contemporary artists’ interpretations of the classic Tarot de Marseille deck of cards. Although used as playing cards throughout Europe since the 15th century, in the English-speaking world the tarot is generally associated with divination and fortune telling. A rich source of imagery, it includes such archetypes as The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Lovers, The Wheel of Fortune, The Hanged Man and Death.
