Exeter musician's return to conducting for charity concert in aid of Unicef

A well-known Exeter musician is set to conduct again at the end of September for a special charity concert in the city centre in aid of Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund. Raymond Calcraft, who was Director of Exeter Philharmonic Choir for fifteen years from 1988 to 2003, led the Choir in more than 80 concerts in the Cathedral, and took them to Spain in 1998 to sing in Madrid's famous Auditorio Nacional and the Cathedral of Salamanca. He also brought the English Chamber and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras to Exeter to perform with the Choir.

Leading Exeter health and wellbeing charity CITY Community Trust has made a key new appointment as it continues to develop its links with the business community.

Stacey Hedge has joined the charity as business development manager.

Exeter resident Katie Dicker enjoyed a day to remember on Saturday 15 September when she got to meet her hero, Formula 1 legend Nigel Mansell CBE. Local charity, Dream-A-Way, wanted to thank Katie for taking to her specially adapted trike last month and raising over £2,100 for the charity – which provides holiday grants and trips for people with physical and learning disabilities. The team behind a project which is helping 20 heritage destinations in the South West of England become more accessible to people with disabilities will be honoured as the nation’s favourite Heritage project at this year’s National Lottery Awards show broadcast on BBC One. Man assaulted at Dawlish station

Officers investigating an assault at Dawlish station, where a man was head-butted by another man, are today appealing for witnesses.

At approximately 8.30pm on 25 August, there was an altercation on platform one at the station between two men. The victim, who has not yet contacted police, was head-butted by the suspect who then walks away. A short while later he returns, and kicks and punches the man several times before boarding a train on platform one. CPRE Devon and Devon Norse join forces to clean up Exeter’s Sowton Estate

A staggering amount of litter was collected in just one hour on Exeter’s Sowton Industrial Estate last Friday in a joint litter-pick by the Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England and Devon Norse.

Twenty people took part in the clean up in the area around Bittern Road, where Devon Norse is based. Members of CPRE Devon joined company employees and provided them with the necessary gear: litter-picking sticks, high vis jackets, gloves and bags.
