Waste operator fined for illegal waste disposal in Devon countryside

Businessman Roger Baker has been ordered to pay more than £6,650 for illegally disposing of thousands of tonnes of waste on farmland near Exeter. The case was brought by the Environment Agency.

In 2016 Mr Baker imported 7,514 tonnes of inert waste on a field at Poltimore, Exeter under the guise of ‘drainage’ works. This amount of waste far exceeded that permitted under an authorisation, issued by the Environment Agency, known as a U1 waste exemption. Victorian families were able to enjoy their own version of Netflix by utilising an early form of ‘pay-per-view’ entertainment to while away winter evenings, new research has found.

Nineteenth-century households were able to have access to hundreds of images of far and exotic lands, comic scenes and classic novels, all from the comfort of their homes after magic lanterns and stereoscopes became available to hire.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, will be rolling out new livery across all its Bombardier Q400 and Embraer 175 aircraft over the next six years, the first of which elegantly wings its way into the fleet today (Tuesday 4th September 2018).
