New High Definition theatre cameras at the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital

The Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital has invested over £30,000 in a state-of-the-art high definition camera stack to help with keyhole surgery.

The new Karl Storz camera stack is now in use for laparoscopic procedures and operations such as gall bladder removal, hernia repair and gynaecology procedures.

Theatre Manager Jason Finney said “This new camera stack will be of great benefit to the surgeons, giving an even clearer image for them to work to and providing greater detail.

Patients may experience quicker operation times, and so even shorter waits.

Neil Parish MP supports Guide Dogs' call to keep pedestrians safe from silent menace

Mr Parish has supported Guide Dogs’ call for the installation of a vital safety feature on quiet hybrid and electric vehicles to keep pedestrians safe, by attending a reception at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 26 June. The Tiverton and Honiton MP was amongst the large number of Members of Parliament who backed the charity's call to install artificial noise generators on quiet vehicles. Research shows that some quiet vehicles cannot be heard until one second before impact and, in certain conditions, are more likely to be involved in a collision with a pedestrian than conventional...

There are forces of good in life and they oppose forces of evil, and the world is the arena in which this struggle takes place. But if this is so, why do good people do bad things and bad people do good things? Big questions and not immediately relevant or applicable to...

Doctors in Devon are celebrating the 65th birthday of a “national treasure” today – the NHS.

Since the NHS launched on 5 July 1948 it has continually developed and in April this year groups of GPs and clinicians were given the responsibility of buying most healthcare services, including acute hospitals and mental health services.

In Devon, the Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is made up of member GP practices, was set up, giving clinicians and patients more of a say in local healthcare development to get services right for their...

Warming and greening Devon's churches

Devon’s churches are getting greener. Eighty churches from all over the South West took part in a pioneering conference to look at heating their buildings more effectively. Churches are encouraged to carry out energy audits or benchmarking to determine both the use of their buildings and also energy demands, with a view to making more efficiencies in the future. The new national energy- measuring scheme aims to grade our churches like fridges and to improve each year from F towards A ratings. The conference was held at the recently re-ordered St. Stephen’s church in Exeter High Street,...
