Unite stage peaceful protest outside Exeter John Lewis

Members of the national trade union Unite staged a peaceful protest outside John Lewis in Exeter yesterday lunchtime as part of a national effort to put pressure on stockists of Siemens products. Unite argues that although Siemens has had a positive 'human rights' record' in the past, the company is currently "falling short of their own 'Code of Conduct' by continuing to work with two construction companies that are proven 'blacklisters' who victimised trade unionists and are now at the centre of allegations of continued persecution.

What led you to volunteer for WESC Foundation?

Devon Community Foundation is asking anyone who loves to dance, or who simply loves Devon, to get involved in a county-wide flashmob on Sunday 30 June to help raise funds for the charity.

Friends Life spokesperson confirms no job losses planned for Exeter office

The BBC revealed this morning that it had seen evidence that Friends Life was reviewing whether or not to keep their Exeter base at Clyst St Mary, where about 80 people are employed.

It was revealed by the BBC's Business Correspondent Neil Gallacher that "A report from the land agents acting for the owners suggested they are likely not to stay."

Derek Phillips, from the Exeter Chamber, said on BBC Radio Devon this morning "They are important - not as important as they were a few years ago when they were extremely large, but even so, the loss of 100, 200 or even 300 jobs...

Visit Otterton Mill to watch milling demonstrations. Water power is used to produce stoneground wholemeal flour, continuing in a 1,000-year old tradition. Otterton's millers are happy to answer questions and show you how they produce their stoneground wholemeal flour.
