A new perspective on art that touches all the senses

Exeter School is to exhibit artwork produced by WESC Foundation pupils and students for the second year running. An exhibition of sensory artwork produced by visually impaired artists will be held from 18-21 June, 10am – 3pm, in the Andrews Hall to which all are invited, beginning with a private view on Monday 17 June from 6-7.30pm. Local Transport Board invites comments on draft programme

Consultation on major transport schemes proposed for the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership area (Devon, Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay) will continue for the next fortnight.

The Heart of the South West Local Transport Board (LTB) will manage the funding to be devolved from the Department for Transport for major local transport schemes. It has been allocated an indicative sum of around £40.6 million over four years.

The final allocation, which will not be known until the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review has been concluded, could be higher or lower...

Exeter sex offender sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in custody

Tony Bradbury, 41, of Whitchurch Avenue, Exeter, was today sentenced at Exeter Crown Court to 3 years and 10 months in custody. Det Sgt Brian Slade from the force’s child exploitation unit said: “Tony Bradbury has today been sentenced for offences including sexual activity with children, grooming of children and possessing and distributing pictures of child abuse. “This has been a complicated and extensive enquiry. Libraries and GPs join forces to offer books on prescription

A national scheme offering ‘books on prescription' to people with mental health problems is to be rolled out across Devon.

Devon County Council has teamed up with leading independent charity The Reading Agency and the Society of Chief Librarians to help launch the Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme, which aims to use reading as a tool to help those who suffer from conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress, phobias and some eating disorders.

Shrinking pay sees £5.7bn lost from South West economy

The value of the South West’s overall pay packet has fallen by 10% since 2007, according to a TUC analysis published today (Tuesday) to launch its new pay campaign: Britain Needs A Pay Rise. The TUC analysis of official figures shows that on the eve of the recession in 2007 workers across the South West were earning a total of £57bn (in 2012 prices). South West tops the leader board for householders installing solar

Latest Ofgem figures reveal that over the last year the South West has topped the ‘league table’ for households installing solar panels, with more than 15,000 confirmed installations and around 57 MW installed capacity. This compares to the next closest region, the south east with 13,000 followed by the east midlands with just over 12,000 installations. In the last year Bristol and the surrounding areas alone contributed around 3,000 installations, about 10 MW of installed capacity, testament to the high uptake of green energy in the region. Local roofer ordered to pay £2,000 compensation

An Exeter roofer has been ordered to pay £2,000 compensation after carrying out work described by an expert building surveyor as being of an “exceptionally poor standard”.

Appearing at Exeter Magistrates Court this week, 42-year-old John Isaacs of J&H Roofing Services pleaded guilty to one offence under the ‘professional diligence’ requirements of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, in a prosecution brought by Devon & Somerset Trading Standards Service.
