Repairs to start on Topsham flood defences

Work will start next week on repairs to a flood defence wall damaged by the storms at the start of the year.

Exeter City Council will fund the repairs to the wall at Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham, using money from the government's funds.

Contractors working for the City Council will begin work on Monday (28 April). It is expected to be completed by late May.

Street Motion Freerunning Academy grand opening

This Sunday (27 April) Street Motion will be hosting a day of free taster sessions for anyone wanting to have a go at parkour or freerunning at the newly-opened Exeter Sports Academy in Marsh Barton, Exeter.

Each session will last for 30 minutes and there are different activities going on at different times throughout the day.

SW Greens condemn 'abandoning off-shore wind'

South West Green Party has condemned the Tories for ‘abandoning onshore wind’ while at the same time wanting to change trespass laws so that shale gas exploration companies would be allowed to drill under people’s homes. Mayor to break ground £5m Exmouth hotel

The Mayor of Exmouth, Cllr John Humphreys is to ‘break the ground’ as work starts on the new £5m Premier Inn for Exmouth next Tuesday.

Cllr Humphreys will be joined in the cermony by New Openings Manager for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants Carly Wintle, for Whitbread PLC, to offically begin work on the construction of Exmouth’s new 60-bedroom Premier Inn, with cafe and conference facilities, which will open for business in spring 2015.

Flybe to close 'sun routes' from October

Flybe have confirmed that they are to cease operations on four major ‘sun routes’ flying from Exeter Airport, from October. The move will see four regular Flybe routes, from Exeter Airport to Spain and Portugal, closed as the airline changes focus to regional flights. The Exeter routes due to close currently fly to Alicante, Malaga and Palma Mallorca in Spain as well as Faro in Portugal. More than 200 families across Devon and Cornwall will benefit from a grant made to an Exeter-based national charity by The Norman Family Charitable Trust.

National Family Mediation, based in Exeter, whose mission is to help parents who live apart stay close to their children, has been awarded £1,000 by the Trust.
