Tickled pink: Exeter families to move into colourful new homes

Six new brightly coloured council homes set to providing sustainable and low energy housing for some of Exeter’s most vulnerable families.

New eco-friendly homes at Reed Walk, Newport Road will house six local families who have been waiting for a suitable place to live on Exeter’s Housing Register. The new three-bedroom homes, including one fully wheelchair accessible property, were completed in September.

The houses are noticeable due to their bright colouring, which were carefully developed to reflect typical natural building materials of the Exeter area like Devon...

Bishop Sarah ordains four new priests

Bishop Sarah has ordained four new priests, and in doing so became the first woman bishop in the Church of England to lead an ordination service.

Bishop Sarah ordained Leisa McGovern and Sheila Walker, in Ottery St Mary, and Glyn Lewry and Jill Purser in Sampford Peverell.

The four clergy have spent a year in the parishes as deacons but now they are ordained priests by Bishop Sarah, they will be able to take weddings and lead Communion services.

Ageing population key to unlocking 2.6m homes

Almost three million homes could be released into the housing market if better incentives and information were offered to older home-owners, encouraging them to downsize into smaller properties, according to The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The RICS Residential Policy Review published last week, sets out a number of recommendations on how Government could do more to tackle the UK’s housing crisis, including incentivising home owners to sell or rent out under-occupied family homes.

Botha ‘excited’ to be back

Chrysander Botha says he’s “excited” to be back at Sandy Park as prepares to line-up for Namibia in their latest Rugby World Cup encounter against Tonga today (4.45pm).

Not since October last year – when London Irish were the visitors in the Aviva Premiership – has the 27-year-old featured in a competitive fixture at the Exeter stadium.

Trust to hold two nurse open days in October

THE NHS Trust that manages Exeter Community Hospital and local community health and social care teams is aiming to recruit more nurses when it holds two open days in October.

The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for experienced and newly-qualified nurses to work across its acute and community services.

Firm donates IT equipment to Exeter Foyer

Exeter-based accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards has donated a variety of IT equipment, including 44 PC screens, to Exeter Foyer to be used by its young residents as part of their work, training and educational programmes.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published its final recommendations for new electoral arrangements for Exeter City Council.

Today’s publication follows an eight-week public consultation on its draft proposals and draws new boundaries for each council ward across Exeter.

Double amputee climbs for Hospiscare

Hospiscare’s amazing fundraiser, Norman Croucher has done it again!

Over the summer, after chemotherapy,radiotherapy and a major operation resulting in a permanent colostomy because of bowel cancer, the 75-year-old double leg amputee has returned to the French Alps and climbed four mountains.

Norman is raising money for us and says this gives him a great sense of purpose; the total so far is nearly £8,000.
