Taking place on December 1, #GivingTuesday follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday - two of the UK’s biggest shopping days. The campaign is supported by a wide range of celebrities and sports stars, including Miranda Hart, Casey Batchelor, Olympic gold medallist Hannah Cockcroft, Peter Andre, Downton Abbey’s Joanna Froggatt, former Dr Who David Tennant, and historian and presenter Dan Snow.

“The year just keeps getting better and better,” said Bee Hughes, Headmistress at The Maynard School in Exeter, as she quietly reflects upon winning Teacher of the Year at the recent Pride of Exeter Awards 2015.

“I was surprised to even be nominated and never expected in a million years that I would win! I was gobsmacked when they called out my name and then slightly concerned because I hadn’t even put any thought to an acceptance speech!”

Ms Hughes has worked tirelessly since her appointment in 2009 and, despite her protestations, being handed this award was a worthy...

It’s not been quite the same whirlwind start to the season as it was 12 months ago for Thomas Waldrom, but the Exeter Chiefs forward isn’t complaining as long as the Devon club continue to produce the winning formula.

England international Waldrom enjoyed an amazing first year in Chiefs colours, scoring 16 tries in total following his move from Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers.

His tally ensured he not only finished top of the touchdown pile for Rob Baxter’s side, but he was also crowned the first forward since Neil Back in 1999 to be the Premiership’s top try-...

Gemma - A Woman on a Mission

Gemma marched into the hospice reception yesterday.

It was a definite march, not an amble or a saunter, a march like soldier with the air of “let’s crack on and get things done.” Having last seen her in March I was expecting a warm greeting and a good long catch up – no chance.

This was a woman on a mission.

Gemma is our miracle Hospiscare patient who is much loved by staff and volunteers. Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumour six years ago Gemma is still with us, but as a volunteer fundraiser rather than a patient. The chemotherapy worked!

During her...

And in one coffee shop in a town just over the horizon...
