Teacher receives Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate

An Exeter School teacher has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

Mathematics teacher and Combined Cadet Force Commander, Dr Geoff Chapman was presented with the certificate over half-term.

Headmaster Mr Griffin said he had increased the school’s large contingent through his inspirational and efficient approach each week, on summer camps and Easter Adventure Training.

Secretary of State for Education awards prizes for Exeter Mathematics School competition

The winners of a region-wide mathematics competition, run by Exeter Mathematics School, were awarded their prizes by the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, in a ceremony held on Thursday 7 November at the Department for Education.

The overall winners, from The Royal High School, Bath, demonstrated their mathematical and communications skills by providinga solution to ‘Bezout’s Buckets’ in an entertaining fashion.

Exeter School pupil achieves highest marks in the country in A-Level Electronics and Applied Science

Exeter School pupil David Salmon achieved the highest marks in the country in A Level Electronics and Applied Science.

The 2013 Exeter School leaver received 595 UMS marks out of 600, the highest of all candidates who studied Electronics and Applied Science with the exam board, WJEC, in 2013.

The Chief Executive of WJEC, Mr Gareth Pierce, said this was an outstanding achievement and evidence of the hard work of David and his teachers in preparing him for the assessment.

The children in Exeter School’s Junior School took part in a Poetry Competition for National Poetry day. Inspired by ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ from Coleridge’s Rime Of The Ancient Mariner , the poems focused on the subject of water and what it means to us, The children’s poems covered water on our beaches, rivers, the water in our bodies and the water we drink and how lucky we are to be able to take it for granted. Exeter School welcomes Radio 3's Stephen Johnson

Exeter School welcomed BBC Radio 3’s Stephen Johnson to its annual Speech Day event last week (19 September). Johnson gave a speech on the power of music at the event discussing its use in treatment in cases of depression and Alzheimer’s before presenting prizes to both Junior and Senior School pupils. An Exeter School pupil has been selected to join the England Development Programme for Under 16 Cricket. New look for Exeter School as pupils return for the Autumn term

Exeter School has had a busy summer while the pupils and teachers were on holiday. A major programme of building and refurbishment has been completed, to bring the facilities right up to date just in time for the new school year which starts today (4 September). GCSE German pupil takes first prize in Goethe Institut Digital Days Competition

A GCSE German pupil from Exeter School has taken first prize in a prestigious Goethe Institut competition.

Middle Fifth (Year 10) pupil Katie Hayman was awarded first place in the News Reading category of the Digital Days Competition for which she had to film herself reading the news in German.

Katie beat almost 150 applicants to win a £50 prize and impressed the panel of judges who said it was very difficult for the selection panel to come to a decision.

46.9% of grades A* and 80.3% of grades A* or A Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating another round of consistently good GCSE results which have set two new records in excellence. 46.9% of all grades were A*, beating last year’s record of 46.5%, and 80.3% were A* or A grades, compared to last year’s 75.5%. 99.5% of grades were A* - C.
