Exeter School gives thanks to Founders

Exeter School’s annual Founders’ Day Service was held at Exeter Cathedral on Wednesday 22 April.

The whole school, comprising boys and girls aged 7-18, staff and governors, gathered to give thanks to its founders in a beautiful service.

The Reverend Hilary Dawson, Rector of Colyton, gave an address at the school’s service encouraging the congregation to live life to the full and do all the good you can in the words of John Lesley, the English preacher, and founder of the Methodist movement.

Pupils play for water in fundraising concert

For the 14th year running, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special charity concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from this concert, which takes place on at 7.30pm on Wednesday 29 April at St David's Church in Exeter, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.

Currently in Zambia, 5.2 million people have no access to a safe water source and 8 million people have nowhere safe to go to the toilet...

Exeter School linguists are top of the class!

Three Year 11 pupils have taken first, third and fifth place individually in the weekly competition organised by the 'This is Language' website.

Pupils across the UK answer questions based on their comprehension of videos in French, German and Spanish where native speakers talk about a range of GCSE topics.

By the end of last week's competition, Mr Latimer's class was narrowly beaten into third place nationally, with his 22 pupils answering no fewer than 6,114 questions correctly between them.

Nine medical offers for Exeter School pupils

Nine Exeter School pupils have received medical offers at top universities across the country.

Six current Upper Sixth pupils have received medical offers this year.

Upper Sixth Former Grace Poole has received an offer to study Medicine at St George’s London. She said Exeter School had been a remarkable place to study her A Levels, from the support of various teachers with her studies and future plans, to the extracurricular activities and sports teams that she has enjoyed being a part of.

Debut for Exeter School composer

For the first time, Exeter School’s Choral Society concert featured the work of one its very own pupils who also sang solo parts.

Upper Sixth Former Fionn Connolly, who has recently received an offer to read Music at Cambridge University, composed Ring on Ring inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath.

The school community of about 130 pupils alongside parents, staff, alumni and friends of Exeter School, accompanied by a full professional orchestra, performed Fionn’s piece on Thursday 19 March 2015 in Exeter Cathedral.

Arts offers for Exeter School pupils

Exeter School is proud to announce that two of its pupils have been offered places in the field of the arts.

Upper Sixth pupils Daniel Hambly and Clara Finnigan have been offered degree places for September 2015 at The Architecture Association and the London College of Fashion, respectively.

As the end of term approaches, Headmistress Mrs Alison Turner is about to begin the next stage of her life and career in New York City and says farewell to Exeter Junior School.

Headmaster Mr Bob Griffin said Mrs Turner's approach was characterised from the outset by her kindness, her interest in, and respect for, all members of the community and her wish to educate her pupils in the widest sense, instilling in them fundamental Christian values and imbuing them with her tremendous sense of fun

Exeter School finish third in Kids' Cup Regional Final

Exeter Junior School played for the first time in the regional finals of the U11 Kids' Cup Regional Final on Friday 13 March.

After their magnificent achievement of winning the Kids Cup Club Final, hosted by Exeter City FC, in January, the boys had been eagerly awaiting the regional finals in Portsmouth.

Fourteen schools, representing local Sky Bet League Two clubs were divided into two groups of seven. The two winners would then go through to contest a final, with the winner going through to play the winner of the northern sides at Wembley Stadium before the League Two...

Exeter Junior School wins District Finals of Youth Speaks

Exeter Junior School's public speaking team of three, Year 6 pupils Minnie Conibear, Isobel Rutter and Millie Lofthouse, has won the District Final of the Rotary Club 'Youth Speaks Competition' held last Saturday.

This is as far as junior participants can go so it is a huge achievement.

In addition to winning the overall trophy, Isobel was singled out for the specific prize of 'Best Speaker'.

It was a great day for the girls, Form Tutor Mr Ashman, English Coordinator Mrs Pettet and Exeter Junior School.

Exeter Junior School welcomes author illustrator alumna

Exeter Junior School welcomed back 1987 leaver Charlie Alder for World Book Day.

Author and illustrator Charlie, who studied A Level Drama at Exeter School, spent the morning of Thursday 5 March with Year 3 pupils and Junior School librarians sharing her first author illustrated picture book, Daredevil Duck.

During her workshop Charlie showed the children the journey from a doodle to an actual published book. The children were able to look at examples of Charlie’s work at every stage of this journey.
